Caring about people using this incorrectly is even stupider than using it incorrectly.

Exactly....when one say's "I could care less", it's one of those phrases that it's assumed that everyone knows the rest of the sentence without hearing it.

What is means is, "I COULD care less, but I don't see how", or "but not much because I hardly care about it now".
The second part is just assumed

"What is understood, doesn't need to be discussed".

So it's not incorrect. Now, do people use it in error, when they really mean "I couldn't care less"? I'm sure.

Every time you speak my name
(My name, my name)
My image it just burns away
(away, away)
Everytime you speak my name
(My name, my name)
My image it just, it just, it just BURNS AWAY(burns away)
burns away, away, away, away
Give me that
I could care less than for your grandiosity
I had to skin the cat for curiosity
I could care less than for your silly pompous ways
Every time you speak my name, my image burns away
I could care less
I could care less
I could care less
I could care less
Don't you know our lives are on trial now
And if we loose were going straight to hell (2x)
(Give me that)
You must excuse me i'm gone really not myself
woke up today inside, inside of someone else
I could care less for your silly pompous way
Every time you speak my name my image burns away
(Give me that)
I could care less x 5
I could care less
I could care less
(Give me that)
I could care less
I could care less
Don't you know our lives are on trial now
And if we loose were going straight to hell (2x)
Straight to hell
Straight to hell
Straight to hell
Straight to hell
Straight to hell
Might go straight to hell
I could care less (straight to hell) x 3

Dear Diary,

I'm so mad! People are so stupid these days. Listen to this: "I couldn't care less". People are always using this phrase wrong! Why!? I need to do something about this! EVERY SINGLE DAY I hear some idiot saying "I could care less". Well no shit you "could" care less. Jesus. Can't these dummies get it right? So, Diary, I'm going to make a post on a INTERNET message board that has over ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND people. I'm gonna tell them how to correctly use this phrase. I'm gonna tell them alright, and they are gonna listen damnit!

"I could care less what you think" as in, "f... you and your opinion"

Surely you should be saying "I couldn't care less" ?

Saying you could care less means you DO care.

Am I missing some internet joke, or have people lost the ability to write what they mean?

"I could care less" is just dumb. Please stop using this phrase.

welcome to the 100000000000000000th thread about this and other things people say wrong! we have one of these threads at least once a week here...

See, in this instance "at least once a week" is used correctly, because it is certainly true.
Though not as true as saying "at least 213,675,213,675,213 times per week" because thats how many times per week it would actually need to happen so we could have 100,000,000,000,000,000 times since Anandtech started.
But the first one is still technically correct, its just not as completely descriptive, but it doesnt need to be to get the point across. See?

So you start your post by stating you've seen people "write 'I could care less'" for years blahblahblah.

Then you introduce us to your perfect logic by stating "Surely you should be saying 'I couldn't care less?'" and "Saying you could care less means you DO care"

Finally, you leave us with "have people lost the ability to write what they mean?"

So I'll ask you this question; have people lost the ability to write what they mean? Obviously in your post, this is the case.

Typing "saying" when you mean "writing" is just dumb. Please stop doing this.

Actually, boths phrases should be phased out. The correct wording insults the listener. The incorrect wording insults the speaker.

LOL, you come into this thread and see that everyone pretty much is bashing the OP. You then decide to jump on the band wagon by making your own "clever" bash post by pointing out a small, trivial inconsistency in his sentence structure. Your post is weak at best. You fail as badly as those who write/say/type "could care less."

Are you joking? That's exactly why I pointed it out, everyone makes small, trivial mistakes with what they write. Stating something like "I could care less" is absolutely no different than typing "saying" when you actually mean "writing". Get a clue, smartass.
