i recently upgraded my CD-R/RW drive from a TDK 32x to a Plextor Premium drive. Before the upgrade(in my case downgrade) i was mainly using Memorex and TDK media. All of my discs would burn fast and from what i could tell w/ little or no errors(audio CDs were very compatible). Now that i have the "premium" drive i was hoping for some fast burns and sweet features. the errors were by default expected to be virtually non-existant. After several CDs(memorex 52x) not burning at anything higher than 16x i was really steamed and decided to turn off the Power Record function. This allowed me to burn coasters at speeds of up to 52x. There were two good things about that, one was atleast i knew shoddy dicks were comming out, and the second was the time it took to get a POS out of the drive. Granted that the 16x burns were readable but they weren't compatible w/ stand alone CD players. What made me happy was when i had the TDK burner and there was TDK media, please... match the drive w/ the media branded by the same company how could life get easier? What kind of sick people won't reccoment their product to be used w/ another of their products? Well, Plextor doens't brand media, and from what i hear the drives are reather picky w/ media choices. I've read reviews of all sorts of drives and i have come to realize that i have no idea what people mean when they say recoomended media "Ritek, blah blah blah..." i've never seen Ritek labled media. Don't get me wrong i'm sure that it's been branded by some other place but i don't know who or how to tell. I really want my Plextor drive to burn just one single CD at 52x that has less than 15K C1 errors(i use the plextor tools to check my disks) the only reason i say less than 15K is because that's about 1/2 the normal C1 errors i get. If someone would help me i'd greatly appreciate it. after my expirence w/ this drive i don't care if everyone else in the world has had nothing but gold from the Plextor people i'll never buy/recomend one of their drives unless this one works as it should. (oh yea for being a premuim drive i would expect this damn thing to take sh!tty media and handle it like a champ. chew it up and spit out a nicely burnt CD w/ little or no errors)
