He hates gay people.
Still sounds pretty silly for a man who plays with balls all day.
But I guess he doesn't get paid to think.

I agree. He can be whoever he wants to be.

So, if I say I hate Blacks, Asians or filthy stinking Mexicans it's okay because I'm just being who I want to be?

Since when is it okay to promote hatred and intolerance of a certain group of people in our society?

If you hate something, then stand up and say it.
Personally I don't really hate any particular group of people.
But I do hate Kias. They are just not very good cars in my opinion.
The fact is, if you are anything, and want to admit it openly, you have to be ready to have people high and low disagree with your view. To take a stand against your stand.

I am much more interested in why he hates homosexuals.
I've always felt that if you can come to a conclusion than your reasons must be clear.
And it's the funniest thing when people try to explain why they hate homosexuals, because it's never what the people "think", it's what they were "taught."

I don't either. I was just making a point.

The difference between our ball dribbling friend and most other people is that he's been given a microphone and can influence millions of people with his opinion.

Oh, and I hate Kias too.

He can say whatever he wants and none of us can do anything about it. He breathes the same air we do so why should his opinion matter?

What in the hell is the correct choice of words in this situation? Should he have covered his ass by hiding under the fascia of religion, declaring that gays are evil according to the scripture of god? If he was a white man, saying that he hated blacks, would you still herald his honesty, as if it was something to be respected?

He plays Basketball. People will listen when he talks about Basketball. No one is going to tune into the Tim Hardaway show to listen to him discuss the issues of today...lol.

Well, I know all hockey players are gay. They have to be. Have you seen the pants they wear?

I never said they were, but I'd rather someone be dishonest, at least it hints to some inkling of a conscious and a general basis of what is truly right and wrong. I have no respect for the idiot who wears his honesty on his shoulder. His honesty deserves no recognition.

Ah, but what if he truly loves gay people/is gay/etc and is being dishonest about hating them?

I wouldn't be so sure of that...How many former athletes or actors have made the transition to politics or as spokesperson for some cause?

I'll never forget when I saw Charles Barkley on CNN telling some professor that he didn't care about history (I just wish I could remember the discussion).

You take the exact opposite position of my black friends. Pretty much across the board they all say they prefer living in the South...at least the racists & bigots in the South don't try to hide it compared to the North where everyone pays lip service to equality and fairness. Yes, I know this is a small sample size and anecdotal evidence is no evidence at all...I just find the radically different opinions of two different minority groups about the same topic of honesty in bigotry interesting.

So you respect him and herald his honesty because it parallels your own thinking......right, got it.

Come on, Carbo. In an attempt to appear consistent, you only prove the absurdity of your stance. The reality is not that you are standing up for free speech, but rather free derision of those you've admitted you percieve as deviant. Should we then interpret your recent approval of hate speech against blacks as a testament of your similar perception of them?

Pretty much across the board they all say they prefer living in the South...at least the racists & bigots in the South don't try to hide it compared to the North where everyone pays lip service to equality and fairness

How many of them have lived in the North? Could this simply be cognitive dissonance?
