Solved! I installed a new RTX 4080, but now all my video files play at extremely low frame rates [SOLVED!]

My video files were working fine when originally using Intel integrated graphics on my rig. I installed my first NVIDIA GPU a few days ago, and now when playing video files through Windows Media Player they are only 5 fps.

I checked to see if the integrated Intel GPU was still running after installing the NVIDIA GPU but it's disabled (besides, it was running videos just fine before on its own). I have the latest NVIDIA firmware from a week or so ago, so that's not it. All my games and graphic apps are running fine.

I then downloaded the VLC video app to determine if WMP was the problem, and it plays the videos at around 20 fps max (and still kinda choppy).

The only other thing "different" I did video-related to my system is uninstall the GeForce Experience app since I didn't think I'd use it right now (I'll stick with MSI's control panel instead for games). The GE app has some video related perks, so I re-installed it to check if the video problem would be fixed and nope, my videos are still sluggish.

Any help would be appreciated.

When you say "your videos" do you mean locally stored (personal) videos? Does the problem also apply to streaming 4K videos from YouTube or some other streaming service?

If YT videos are fine, then you should probably focus your attention on the installed codecs you have (or their config). If all high definition videos play back poorly, then you might want to perform a clean re-install of your Nvidia driver. You can also check what happens when you re-enable the iGPU as well (there's a BIOS option that allows it to function alongside the main dGPU, as a secondary option). Having the iGPU enabled is the preferable way anyway, and if enabling it fixes anything then you might want to check video codec configuration or even Windows configuration for GPU utilization.

This Windows config part is probably unrelated to your problem, but it's good to know it exists. (especially for anyone using a laptop as well)

Use DDU to uninstall the drivers and do a clean driver install and report back.
