Because to believe that machines would have subjective memory is just plain stupid, IMO. It serves no purpose and makes no sense. And so what if the lovebot was not as sophisticated as David? He's a machine, with a machine's memory. If there's a problem, you pull him apart and analyze him. Hook up the memory module to an external reader, replay visual record (or whatever) from the appropiate time index, see what went wrong!

I absolutely hated this movie.
I'm a big Spielberg fan but watching A.I. was worse than a slow torturous death.

*spoilers, don't read bitch*

What I always wondered is if the aliens brought the mom back from the "life stream" did they effectivly erase her from the stream forever since she could only be around for 1 day. If so, serves the bitch right imo.

I also had a problem with the narrator. We hear him once in the beginning and suddenly once in the end? I mean wtf??!!!, couldn't spielberg think of a more creative way to give the audience the info???!!!

overall I give the movie a B-. Kubrick could have done it better... and with more pedophilic overtones

arg. the entire end sequence was in VR. note after the robots that find him "download" him, everything becomes fuzzy. and you even get to see the robots looking into a floating display at david talking to the "blue fairy"...they are treating david as a child, because that is what he is.

all the info is there... just half the people apparently missed it

What's your point? Of course it was some form of VR (what else could it be?), I personally thought of it a hollodeck of sorts.

OK they weren't aliens, I was falling asleep by that point of the movie anyway and when I pay attention there are ET like looking entites on screen, but the robots themselved say.

"We found the very fabric of space-time itself appeared to store information about every event that had occurred in the past. But the experiment was a failure, for those who were resurrected only lived through a day of renewed life. When the resurrectees fell asleep on the night of their first new day, they died again. As soon as they became unconscious their very existence faded away into darkness."

So the bitch mom is erased from existence afterall. I'm taking this as truth, because what reason would the advanced mecha have to lie to david at that point? Why not just run the simulation forever.

They weren't Aliens.....they were evolved Robots. You apparently missed the point totally.

I was going to say, he the one who's retarded... but looks like there were many others who missed it completely after reading the whole thread.

For some reason it was that good of a movie. I usually tears here and there on good movies but man....

this movie just make me cried like i'm actually hurt.

I cried too -- tears were streaming down my cheeks. I thought it was a beautiful ending. I think it really touched me because I related to the "yearning to see someone again".

perhaps because the illusion would eventually fall apart. they had dna and his memories of her, thats all. maybe enough for trickery for one day, and besides, the one last perfect night was probably the least cruel solution.

machine memory can be manipulated correct? of course.

thats all you need to know really.

Me too.

I get leaky from a lot of movies, but A.I. had me practically bawling. The last 10-20 minutes was pure hell starting out mildly sad, then after a few minutes BAM more sad, then a few more minutes SMACK sad++, and it went on like that until the end. Awesome!

I did find the Movie too long, but worth sticking out.
