I need help with my network

Ok, here is the deal. I have a linksys wireless router/switch with 4 hardwire ports and 2 wireless connectors. I have two win2K computers attached to the hub and two over on the wireless. What I want to do is on one of the wireless connected computers (lets call it the COMPAQ) attach another win2k machine (OPTIPLEX) throught its ethernet cable with a crossover cable.
I have gotten that to work but what I dont have is any connection between the two connections in the one computer. What I want to do is have the computer linked on the ethernet available to the rest of my network. Any Ideas? I have tried making the two sets of TCP/IP settings the same: same subnet, same gateway same dns. No dice. The OPTIPLEX isnt even pingable on the rest of the network. Any assistance would be very helpful as I have only tonight and tomorrow morning to make this happen.

I am afraid something like that won't work. The computer you connect over the crossover cable isn't part of the network and therefore won't be pingable. You have to find some way to connect it to your network.

The easiest way is to connect it to one of the two free hardwire ports. You say you have two systems connecting via ethernet and two via wireless. That leaves 2 hardwire ports available. Just connect your system into that and you are good to go.

the OPTIPLEX is indeed not part of the network

simple solution: run a router on the COMPAQ , if it's win2k server, simply enable the service , tada!!!

you could always download a shareware router.

I believe that janlievens is suggesting that you turn on IP packet forwarding (routing) on the 2K. I know that 2K server/advanced server etc. has that ability and I believe 2K Pro does too since my NT 4 Workstation does. You basically create a "software" router.

if you dont have win2k server (any version), download winroute (but dont ask me how it works, since i never used it)
