I need some good headphones

I have had Grado SR-80's and they were nice but I didn't like the sound coming in from the outside. I need something that will sound good with old rock, blue, new mellow rock and classical, oh and podcasts. I do not want to spend a bunch and do not care about looks.

What's your budget? Check out the jvc rx700s or rx900s... The Grado's are outstanding, so it's going to be tricky topping them, but the rx700 sound great after burning in and provide decent isolation

Those are over the ear, like your beautiful Grados. If you want something in ear, the Nuforce n7m offers among the best sound stage I've heard in sub-$200 IEMS. etynomic's also have sound signatures that I think a grado fan would appreciate (sound stage is king on the sr80s to me, vs. boomy bass). Klipsch S4s are also well regarded, and also in ear.

Check out Denon D1001 or the JVC mentioned above. I've only heard the Denon D1001 though. They seal out about 10dB of outside noise, not as much sealing as other headphones, but they have pretty good soundquality and are comfortable.

I ordered the jvc rx700s

As did I on Wednesday (from Buy.com $34 before $1 and change via Bing Cashback).

This was based on info provided from freedomsbeat212.

Freedom....you need to call JVC and ask for some commissions....just point them to this thread!

Ha! Though credit goes to a massive Head-fi thread on the JVC. They're re-branded audio technicas, so they're a hell of a bargain.

Enjoy them! Just remember that they need to be burned in for a good 40 hours before they really shine. They sounded a bit muddy at first but, burned in at 50% after a week, they remind me of my senheisser sealed headphones (forget the model number) meets my grados.

Was there a massive thread? I thought the last time I looked there were only like 5-6 page threads regarding JVCs. I got mine when spacemanspliff first posted them here and on Head-Fi, though. I've loved mine to death for the past... year? I've also stopped using my Grados, because it's a pain to use two sets of headphones at the same time, lol.

Glad you like them! I have sr60s that I love for their own reasons (sparkly highs mostly), but the JVCs are truly outstanding, especially at $35. Wait til you hear them in after they break in

I forgot where exactly I read about them, either head-fi or some other forum.. Either way, they're outstanding values.

I just ordered 3 more pairs of headphones - soundmagic pl10, pl12, pl18 - let's see how they measure up!

Just came across this thread and searched on Amazon for the RX700's. I was wondering if anyone has tried the JVC HARX900? On amazon they have one more star and are only 20 bucks more so I figured i'd give those a try. Thanks for the help

I do prefer the 900s. They're definitely more comfortable. The sound is "darker" and has a more bass heavy sound. However, I think after some easy/cheap mods, the 900s are definitely better than the 700s. Not by a whole lot...but enough that with the extra comfort, they're easily worth the extra price.

There's also the Phillips HP910s - surprisingly excellent headphones, and about the same price as the 700s. I've yet to hear the 700s, but I'd be amazed if they were better than the 910s, though it must be considered that the 700s are closed cans and have much better noise isolation.

Sony MDR-7506

You'll hear everything, bass is a little enhanced but otherwise mostly flat. If it sounds bad then blame the recording. $100
