the more primitive and... well less-intelligent a society is, the more gods they have. like, years and years ago people had sun gods and moon gods and all kinds of gods for things they didn't understand...

but as we became more intelligent, each of these gods went away because we didn't need them because we now understand how the sun works and the moon works and why it rains, etc.

so, now we are down to 1, won't we eventually be smart enough to not need that one, too?

BTW: i grew up in the bible belt and have not been exposed to many different types of religion so excuse my ignorance.

i understand what you are saying. i think what you are talking about is called "god of the gaps". basically things we cant explain are "because god did it". It is a weak minded view.

one can only hope...

I have already evolved to that point.. my brain cant even comprehend how people are such sheep and follow a book that was written for all we know as fiction 1000s of years ago.. and follow a being that never has showed himself or proved himself to be anything other than a myth like bigfoot or loch ness

I personally cannot comprehend something from nothing. So how did anything ever come about?
It was never about God or religion to me, but the questions. Those unanswerable questions that plague my mind.

Evolved? Oh common. Kinda high on yourself?
THere are MANY religious people that don't fallow a specific book. People that simply believe in a higher being that isn't confined to the specific teachings of a singular book.

Please get off your high horse. You're no more "evolved" than anyone.

$10, what.... Can't you give me a better deal?

BTW... I don't think
Pascal was an idiot, yet he was a Christian.
Einstein was a Pantheist.
Thomas Jefferson was a Christian (but he had a different take on it).
Newton believed in G-d and he even started to go into Mysticism (yet he was a profound genious).

I'll say this in the least inflammatory manner possible:

There is a strong relation between times of hardship and a rise in the rate of belief in religion. There is also a tendency for the poor/illiterate to believe in religion more strongly than the better educated and wealthy. One might postulate that this is because when an individual is faced with a bleak future, the individual often prefers to abstract out their woes to some higher cause rather than believe that all of their ills are their own fault, or that the world is simply that unfair.

no, western civilization switched to one god long before we understood how the sun and moon worked. after the switch it was believed that god pushed the stars and the sun across the sky (medieval physics says that without constant application of force there is no motion... they had a tough time with arrows and spears)

I agree that many religeous people are sheep, but I also think many atheists are as well. The difference being that atheists are more intellectually insecure.

Actually, atheists, since they believe in no higher power, have thereby elevated humanity to the position of supreme being of the universe and thereby believe in six billion gods. That makes them the most primitive of all, I guess.

I would say that this post is extremely unfounded.

For instance, Christianity has one "god", but then this "jesus dude" who has magical powers to, sorta like a minigod. Then there are supposedly angels and some devil guy, and they have powers too. They are supposedly immortal and have magic powers, so wouldn't that make them all gods to some extent?

Muslums have the addition of some "mohammed dude" who was one of them messiah types, which I guess would make him some type of a minigod as well. I don't know how the rest of this religion relates to christianity with the angels and demons and stuff, but I imagine it probably has a bunch of creatures with "godlike powers" that are not called gods, but would have more power than some of the old Greek or Roman gods.

Then there was this one guy who is named Moses, and he supposedly has the power to "part the sea", Even with modern technology, it takes man a LOT of time and labor to do that (by building levies or a dam), to do that impromptu while crossing the sea, would require some sort of "godlike" powers.

So, pretty much anybody who believes in any of the organized religions who claim to be monotheistic, have some multitheistic tendencies.

Just spouting off a few lines to hopefully get people thinking.

LOL.. yah becasue Im smart enough to releaze the only thing we have to blame for our hardships or our triumphs is OURSELVES.. I dont need some fvcking idiotic spirit or book to tell me what to do or how to live...or the need to be hand held into beleiveing that death is more than death and wormfood.. people are so insecure that they have to invent an heaven and a hell to scare people into living well..

well its all bullspit..
it comes down to YOU... ONLY YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BEING A GOOD PERSON MAKING YOURSELF SOMETHING.
there is no afterlife.. there is no Adam and freaking Eve...you inbred thinking idiots..
There is no Arc.. there is no nothing its all stories..

do you people even reaize how stupid these books are?

the human race did not come from 2 people that were mystically POOFED onto the planet.. if so the entire human race is related and inbred you sick fvcks..

2 of every animal on a boat... yah right..
there may have been a guy named JC.. but he wasnt anything any more special than todays magicians and illusionists..

the entire religion thing is a a huge moral scam designed to keep people in line.. casue they are to feebleminded to think for themselves..

we evolved... we will die and turn to dirt.. and the cycle begins again.. we are not special.. we are just an evolved animal that destroys its habitat and all around it..
