Having just gotten a new PC, I have given my old one to my son.
I have setup a simple LAN for the purpose of giving my Son internet access, allowing me to access old files, and to play games with him on a LAN.
Everything works fine, except for playing games with my son on the LAN. Neither computer can see that any LAN game is setup.
Sons system has Win98 with an Asus board with onboard Nic. I have a Cat 5 Cross Over cable going direct from my Sons Nic, to one of mine.
My system has XP Pro, with an Asus board with onboard Nic. That Nic is what I use to attach my cable modem to. In addition, I have added another Nic, which is what joins my Sons computer to mine.
I created a Workgroup on each computer, which we share. I've run through all the tutorials and boards and although completely new to LAN's, I do have it running.
My son has access to the Net via my computer, and I can have access to any files I want on my Sons computer.
Problem is; when we both launch a game and either he, or I, setup a LAN game, neither of our computers can see the others game. I have been playing games for twenty years, so I know I'm not doing anything wrong within the context to setting up, and attempting to join a LAN game, in the game.
The problem is clearly somewhere else, where, for whatever reason, although we are connected, we cannot see eachother over a LAN game.
Anyone? My Son has been so excited to play games with his Dad, he's really dissapointed and you can imagine, I feel awful.
My sincere thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
