I think I'm done rooting

Its not even fun anymore. Nothing since Froyo has mean anything in the way of new Android versions. Phones come fast enough so overclocking isn't needed at all anymore. The only thing that is nice is titanium backup...which I am not sure at why it needs root access.

Its just not worth the headache of fighting soft-bricks and losing your data.

Anyone else kind of bored with rooting, modding and hacking their phones?

No. I keep learning new things. Screwing around with ROMS and such is fun, as well as overclocking.

Undervolting, low level tweaks, etc, increase battery life.

Yep, I've gotten a bit bored of it. Never does seem to work or feel like stock. Heck just changing the launcher (which doesn't require root) fixes most of the smoothness issues. And I'm tired of setting up my homescreen all the time. I overclocked my Droid cause it added some very noticeable performance gains, I doubt with a new phone I'll bother hacking it unless there is some must have reason. Perhaps root to uninstall some preinstalled programs.

What phones? Root has been essential to the everyday use of my vibrant (a good AND bad thing). I test out new roms everyonce in a while, but mainly stick with one I like...

I stopped because while it was fun for a while I've really begun to value consistency and it working well all the time. Thats why I stopped overclocking my PC too because whenever I had an issue it always turned out to be an overclock issue. I'm probably going to jump on the WP7 bandwagon when my contract expires.

Err, this takes about 30 seconds. Backup LP/ADW before you install the new ROM, restore when finished. Correct any widgets you had.

Well, it still sucks when your home-screens are composed entirely of widgets.
Such is the case for me as well.

Not bored.

And I enjoy messing around with my home screen, making icons, and docks, and all the other crap.

Yep - I did the ROM game with a lot of my previous phones (G1, Droid, HD2 most)...and I'm just sick of it. The HD2 really wore me out on it...I was flashing almost daily, and I just got tired of the process. Its not worth it.

Obviously I haven't done anything to my Venue Pro, but even my Vibrant I'm still running the stock Froyo build.

I grew bored a while ago with my Droid X. I'm contemplating on returning to the iPhone but I'd ilike my next phone to be 4G capable. The Bionic looks to be the only decent one on the horizon but...meh... Motorola.

I agree. What's the point of modding a cell phone? I just want stability and quickness, not benchmarks.

Whats the point of building your own desktop? You're not happy with Dell, Acer, and HP?

Good custom roms provide all of the above, often with better usability, support for additional file formats, and longer battery life.

I like the Voodoo audio enhancements done to the Nexus S which can only be attained by rooting.

I often mod my electronics, but only to a point where I get them how I like them, then I stop. Constantly updating and tweaking defys the point of the device, you end up using the device for tweaking more than the intended purpose of the device, and that's when you have to stop.

I am running CyanogenMod 7 with Gingerbread on my Incredible. I don't mind tinkering with it, as long as I gain something. And that is usually battery life....

I am somewhat at that point. Not done rooting but done with alot of the rest. I don't need to squeeze every last ounce of speed out of my phone. It was causing data corruption etc on my phone and I am kind of done with that. I do still remove some of the bloatware that comes by default but that is my extent now.

Sounds like you're burnt out on Android and just need an iPhone.

The difference here is that some of us see a phone as a mini computer, a toy that brings is enjoyment by tweaking and modding. Others, myself included, see it as a tool, a device that needs to do its job and do it well. Modding can improve the tool's functionality, or it can reduce it (lock ups, unreliability, etc). It's a fine balance either way you go.

I'm still pretty impressed and happy with my 1.5 year old Touch Pro 2. Modded or unmodded it works well. I'm pretty amazed Android woeks on it as well as it does, but I still think WM 6.5 is the most useful phone OS.
