I have recently gotten a KT-424 case. the case is great but with one problem.

the fans... as the air blows into the front side air path.. it creates quite alot of noise for me.
yes, i put a fan controller, but it doesn't help much..

since i like the case so much, i didn't want to get another case.

so i ended up deciding to get a "water cooling" system.

is it a good idea to get 'water cooling' to get rid of system fans??
or is there any other solution to get rid of system fans and cpu fan?
are my 2 HDDs going to be OK without the case fans?


if the water cooling is the way to go...

now, i have heard and read about it hear and there...

my budget is $150. and I am willing to get the parts seperately.. i just need to know what i should get.

i am fine with the 'kit' also. as long as it's good.

I am not trying to freeze my cpu or do an extreme overclock on it.

and i won't be needing watercooling on my video card.

so, any suggestions and answers?????

if you want a nice kit corsair cool water is the way to go.

asetek makes a ok kit too for a lil bit more.

or you could buy mostly everything from dangerden like most people do.

i think the corsair radiators use not-so great aluminum fins. cpu block is copper, but your water won't be as cool as it could be with an aluminum radiator of that size. aluminum works well when the radiator is larger.

well, it's not the fan.. it's the air that goes through the air way on the front...

You can always dremel off the front case grill to eliminate airflow noise.

Much cheaper than going water cooling.

I've always found that having a "Silent Computer" and having one that looks cool as well is sort of hard. I would also advise against water-cooling. There are many solutions that you can take to get to have a more quiet computer by just using air. My initial suggestion would be to stop each of the fans one at a time, and find out where most of the noise is coming from. You might think that it's the turbulence, but it could be something else.

well, it's definately the air vent infront of my case...

if i put a piece of paper infront of it and block the air flow, computer goes real quiet..

That air vent is very important and you should not block it without overheating your computer. Look on www.silentpcreview.com, they are more knowledgable about this then a lot of people on here.

i dont have a fan in the front of my case, nor do most others...i really dont think its important.

After replacing my old fans with 4 Nexus 80mm and 1 Nexus 120mm for xp-120, my computer got soooooooo quiet. BIG difference, Nexus are just AWESOME, no motor noise what so ever.

I also have 7 HD which makes just a tiny sound. It mainly comes from the front of the case like you guys mentioned. Wonder if there are any workable solution for that.

I would definately recommend Nexus fans if you want silence.

if you want to watercool here are some good options

rad- get a heatcore from your local car parts store and mod a shoud to it for a 120mm fan
block- you choose i prefer the tdx or a swify
res- any will do or none at all
pump- swiftech makes quiet pumps avoid danner, iwaki, or really highflowing pumps because they can get a little loud
tubing- 1/2 in tubing that is pretty stiff will do but i prefer tygon

cheap water cooling is no good. loud fast fans.. bleh. stuff like resorator costs more. that or get large 120mm radiators..several of em. your psu will still be loud..unless you replace it seasonic is ok.. silentpcreview.com
case also important. stuff like the antec sonata type work well as they are solid thick steel with no straight through path on the front..plus dampened harddrive mounts. harddrive whine will annoy the f*ck out of u if ur case doesn't have dampened mounts once u get rid of fan noise.

cheapest solution is to get a sonata tyep case. if that isn't enough..then go water cooling. the case is very importnat. KT-424 is not designed for silence. trying to silence it would be futile waste of money

Quietest is ABS plastic, like the cases used by Dull.

Steel are reasonably quiet.

Aluminum are the least quiet.

thick solidly built steel case yes. thin aluminum = no
window = no
too many holes = no
front case fan unecessary if the case is built well. the sonata cools just fine with a single rear 120mm mounted with rubber grommets. front vents are baffled too.

remove the fan guard with a dremel or get a different fan..as a bonus, you'll get improved airflow...i cut them all out in my case...2 80mm rear exhaust, 2 80mm front intake, made my own 80mm exhaust blowhole in the top of the case, and one 80mm intake in the side panel...with 6 case fans going its pretty quiet
