As a rule of thumb rats can't deal with a situation and must tattle and hope a woman will take thier side and defend said " snitching".

IMHO ratting people out is acceptable IF you have first confronted them personally and tried to talk it out. Only then should you go to a higher authority.

The OP didnt though. He literally hid behind some womans skirt.

The boss said it is "unprofessional" to smoke out back. So I call the district manager and tell on them. I'm sure I'm public enemy #1 for ratting them out, but since the district manager hates smoking too, she took my side because it really isn't company policy to smoke inside the store. Keep in mind I'm the only employee out of the four others that does not smoke.

So do you think what I did was right?
i think you better be looking hard for a new job. unfortunately, and in typical style, your smoking co-workers will be pricks if they know you are behind this.

Im not a smoker, but I think you should have just STFU and let them smoke outside.

They're smoking inside the store, and in the bathroom in the store. Not outside.

OP should have changed to an all bean and fruit diet and then made it a point to stink up the bathroom horribly every morning...thus making smoking there unbearable.

He did the right thing if they were smoking in the bathroom, that affects everyone. But the OP sounded like he was pissed because they were going outside to smoke.

when they weren't supposed to most likely. people did that all the time at my last job. every chance they got they were out smoking. i'm pretty sure everyone only got 2 15 minute breaks and 1 hour break for lunch in a day, not 10-12 10 minute breaks.

My wife says every once in a while that she needs to start smoking so that she can get breaks. She frequently works 12 hour shifts with only a 30 minute (if that) break for lunch. But, all the smokers never have trouble taking plenty of breaks.

I just have a problem with them smoking inside. I don't care if they take breaks. Just not inside the store

it is only wrong if you did not tell them that they need to move to the side where it will not be taken into the store through the vents. if however, you did this without warning them in any fashion, i hope to never work next to you.

If I was quitting, I would not have said anything.

However, if I was planning on working there, and some ignorant a-hole was stinking up my work area, we'd have a problem. That affects me, and I'm certainly not going to take it.
I definately would have told them to knock it off before alerting management. Give them a chance to either stop, or start looking for a new job.

Steal from the company, sleep on the job, whatever. That's your business. When you start disrupting my work environment with your cigarette stench, that's my business, and you're going to get a rude awakening.

So, it seems like the title to this thread should be changed to:
I was a whiny crybaby snitch yesterday....

Taking breaks to go smoke is such bullshit. Especially if you have to share the work load with them. But yeah if you were quitting anyway, wtf would you want to make thier lives harder, unless you are quitting after the fact. If you snitched because they were taking too many breaks, I can understand, but if you snitched just because you cant stand smoke, then boo to you.

QFT

People who can't adhere to company policy regarding break times, location, and approved smoking locations should universally be fired on the spot, then prosecuted for violating ordinances regarding smoking indoors. Without people reporting this sort of substance abuse, companies would have to start mandatory testing for nicotine, since it is one of the worst drugs with respect to time lost to unauthorized breaks.

Kudos to the OP for doing the right thing.

This is hilarious.

The OP is such a rat, OMG. He's reporting employees smoking INSIDE a building where air is ventiliated INSIDE so that everyone is subjected to second hand smoke. That research and millions of lung cancer patients is all bull, more power to indoor smoking.
