i2500k OC. Stuff to enable/disable?

Hey guys,

I just got my i-2500K with a gigabyte z68-UD3H motherbaord. Its seems as though every guide i look at recommends different settings to enable/disable?

-Can i leave power saving options on? I hear SB is supposed to work with those on
- CPU PLL (what exactly is it)
-Multi load line? (level 3 vs level 6)


Also, what is the common vcore for a 4.5 ghz OC? I initally set my vcore at 1.35 with a load line of 6, but my idle vcore was 1.415 (idle temps @ about 40, load near 70), which i thought was too high in my opinion.

@ stock my temps are 35/55-60
@ 4.5 w/ vcore 1.35 and LLC @ level 6 40/70

Is my vcore too high, on average, for my OC?

Your vcore is a little higher under load than mine was at 4.5. Is your pc stable if you lower the LLC a couple of notches. Also did you try lowering the vcore a step at a time to see if it was still stable. Mine needed roughly 1.35 @4.5 but that doesn't mean yours does. I haven't had any issues leaving the power saving options on but I have heard some people think the overclocks are more stable with them off.

You idle and load temps need some context... what temperature are the ambient temps in your pcs room, does the case have "room to breathe" and do you have decent airflow through your case, i.e 2 or more case fans and no tangle of cables blocking the airflow. Also what are you counting as "load" is that gaming temps or prime95/intel burn test as they can vary quite drastically.

Yes, absolutely. There is no reason to disable these features in your CPU nowadays even if you are OC'ing.

You may need to find something in your bios that is "PLL Overclock" (which is just an enable/disable toggle)...not to be confused with overclocking the CPU PLL.
