But I'd rather spend the $ on raid-0 4x SSD's than upgrade to i7 from my existing quad.
This count?

I need 3 more intel SSD's to get what you want tho.
You guys interested in seeing the monster attached to those drives?
This and I just don't see a compelling enough reason (personally, YMMV of course) to switch from a cheap and effective 3.6GHz E6600 DDR2 setup to a non-i7 setup.Originally posted by: nyker96
it's not too surprising, with new mb/ram/cpu/coolers needed to go i7, i'd say it's a tough sale in current economic conditions. i think only enthusiasts and video/audio/graphics pro will buy it. that is <5% of the market.

It better be something like an Areca 1280ML or better class raid-card with 2GB or more cache. Don't tell me you are using some craptastic on-board mobo raid for those!

Why waste good bandwidth for that? Get a single 280 and be done with it! Kill two birds with one stone.
p.s. The 1680 does not do as well with SATA as its SATA brethren. Even worse would be mixing SATA and SAS on the same host. Get some MBA's and be happy. Don't forget a 2GB DIMM as it's practically free now.
Enjoy our perfectly good setups?Originally posted by: AdamK47
It looks like I'll be sitting on the performance throne longer while you commoners do... whatever you commoners do.
