IBM T42 video cards

i'll be attending college this fall, and i'm not sure if it is worth the money to get a 32 mb ATI Mobility RADEON 7500 in a T42 at $1769, or a 64 mb ATI Mobility RADEON 9600 in the same T42 setup at $2019...

If you're planning ANY games on your laptop other than Solitare, get the one with the Radeon 9600. I have a Radeon 7000 series in my T30, and it sucks for gaming.

You should be able to play CS : Source at 300 X 200 with a 7000...

If you plan to game at all, YES. If not, NO.
What are the other specs? Warranty?

9600 is good for moderate gaming. I play War3 at 1400 resolution and it plays just fine on my T42.
I can't imagine the 7500's suckiness for laptop gaming.

no they are not the education prices...unfortunately..i've either been: 1)too dumb to figure out how to find out how to customize the edu priced notebooks, or 2)i'm going to the wrong place.

i guess i'll spend some time tonight finding really looking into the education notebooks. but my prices are off their retail site online.

Video cards are what determines the difference in prices.
My own 1GB chip will add about $150 to the total cost, but right now cost is not a factor.

Ok, you're paying far too much. I got a 2379DXU (with the Radeon 9600) for $1750 from pcsuperdeals.com, and I got a 512 MB upgrade from compusa for $55 after rebate.

think x600 is more like 9700-9800 and x800 just better than all
