I watched it and thought it was not that great and lame. its just trucks driving across frozen lakes. there is no real skill involved just drive a truck and hope you dont break through.

There is, it's just not easy to convey with a camera because it's all feel and low speed. If you see action, someone f'ed up.

i saw parts of it last night. it looked cool. i wouldn't mind doing that at least once, but i don't know how to drive a rig. all i know is that you have to wait for your air to fill up and when shifting you need to double clutch.

i had a feeling that the new guy was going to screw up. he seemed pretty cocky.

I think they mentioned 20 or so men have lost their lives falling in (and the ice re-freezing above them a couple mins later).

yeap. considering the thousands of trips needed (10k in 60 days? sheesh) its a small number.

that is not saying people don't abandon it. one guy said he has taken people up and then they refuse to make the drive back. the driving over the ice (with it cracking and such) is just to much on some of them.

I used to think the Deadliest Catch guys had hard jobs. These guys ooze manhood. Seeing them out fixing their damn truck at -40 degrees F, yikes. I've been in -19 and couldn't wait to get back inside my nice warm office. Watching the rookie drive in whiteout conditions in the middle of the night made my sphincter tight enough to make diamonds, I bet he was feeling a bit tighter. I'd like to hear what they actually hear while they are driving along, you know the ice is creaking and groaning the whole time.

Although I keep watching Deadliest Catch... and basically it's the same each year....

Not really. The engineers make a speed limit, the drivers just have to follow the damn limit. Many of them don't obviously... they make more money if they don't!

Now that the season is over, I really enjoed the show. Thats one tough job to be able to drive for such long hours at a time. But then it could be easier in some aspects, since you do not have to worry about much other traffic or cars. I hope they will continue it next year!

I don't understand where skill comes into play here. There's no skill involved in thinking your smarter than the engineers and speed on the lakes. That's just stupidity.
