Icons missing in Windows XP

After the last round of windows updates were installed last night I noticed all of my icons were missing. This includes icons on the desktop and all throughout my hard drive. All files are pointing to the right programs, as you can double click and they open. I also made sure that in the file properties they had the right association, which they did.

Going through folder options and file types, I noticed 80% of the file types were not grabbing the icons from the program they were associated with. Is there some sort of master icon file that could have gotten corrupted with the last round of windows updates? None of my other computers that ran the updates have this problem.

i have not seen that problem on all the pc's here at work, but if you download tweakUI it has a rebuild icons thingy.

that should sort it out

Do the System Restore to the point before the Updates (it is called the "Software Distribution 3.0"), and then reinstall the updates.
