Ok I busted out my extra hard drive and have been playing with Astaro, I must admit it's a pain in the ASS, for someone that is not into networking, sheesh, I mean I'd think you need a degree in Network Administration to handle this damm thing, LMAO.

Anyhow here is the situation I am facing now:

http://www.astaro.org/showflat.php?Cat=...e=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=&vc=1

If I can get it to dual boot then I'll hang and beat my brains with it.

THANKS

It is hard because it is good. VERY good. It is VERY complex but INSANELY configurable.

Congratulations on joining the dark side

Let me look up your issue and i'll get back to you.

Yes, welcome dasfox.

Once you get over the initial slump Astaro kicks tail.

So what would be the best firewall/router for a home network with an ftp (small business backup when used), possible future VPN and a future web server that sees medium usage (20-50GB a month now and maybe more later)? Since we have a bunch of firewall people here I might as well ask here instead of starting a new thread. I have a WRT54GS and like the interface however it gets hot and is not the first one to die on me. I want to convert it to a straight AP and run a dedicated firewall/router that I can setup and forget about it rather than having to rely my whole network on a consumer WRT54GS. Looking to spend around $200 or less. I don't care about virus/Trojan protection as this is done on the PC level in my network but need a DHCP option.

Any pros have suggestions?

edit: I originally planned on the d-link I linked to but this thread has opened a lot of options for me.

bluestrobe, I just got Astaro setup running under Vmware, I STRONGLY suggest giving it a spin in Vmware, then later if you like it, can set it up on a dedicated box, this thing seems awesome, good luck.

Sorry but in the room I have the current router there is limited in power hookups. The last time I did use a PC box as a firewall I had problems and want to stick to a dedicated hardware solution.

I would go for the wired version myself...just based on price....

It seems it has a max connection of 5 users. I was looking into it before I saw that.

Those little boxes get expensive.

I liked the options but don't like the limiting connections/users based on cost. I plan on spending around $200 anyways. I don't want something to fail running 2/3 servers and considering paying $70 for my WRT54GS when I was never really happy with it, I'll spend $200 on something I like.
