-Download Manager, choose a folder to automatically download, then you don't have to hit save everytime.

Opera Will do that also

Mozilla and its clones are better for me since IE has only been released for 1 or 2 non-Microsoft OSes.

I like how this is clearly a FF VS IE thread yet you have these characters shouting out about Opera.

Feel left out?

Ain't that the truth. I gave it a fair fight to take over IE as my primary browser. It's not as GREAT as everyone makes it out to be. So wow, something finally caught up to IE and added a few more on top of it. How long did it actually take them ? Maybe in a few years when they come up with ideas on their own. Loading pages quicker than IE by milliseconds is a nice accomplishment though... I never thought it could be done.

And BTW, tabbed browsing is still slower than alt-tabbing to new windows. I don't get the hype and I certainly don't get why people put down IE while doing it. Oh wait, I do.

It keeps my taskbar/dock/whatever cleaner in my opinion. That's why I like tabbed browsing.

The Mozilla group doesn't really have to come up with ideas, the standards are already out there. Someone should forward them on to Microsoft

(1) I use Internet Explorer + GoogleBar
(2) Pages load lightning fast for me (even on my wireless RoadRunner network, one floor down and on the other side of the house from the router)
(3) All of my plugins are downloaded automatically
(4) Google's pop-up killer kills 99.9% of all of my pop-ups
(5) I keep my system set to automatically download security updates and I check MS's site a few times a week for new updates.
(6) I run ZoneAlarm and NAV2004

**I've never been hit with a virus
**I've never been exploited by a hacker
**I've never had my system compromised by a snot-nosed script kiddie

So I say f*&k FireFox, or FireFly, or FireCracker or whatever the hell it's called.

Actually, you're wrong. Safari is based on KHTML(?), the KDE rendering engine. Konqueror also uses the same engine. Having a company use GPLed software in a product of their own is going to help the KDE guys find bugs and fixes they might not have found.

Most definately. I have been using Firebird for like 5 months and I did an Adaware and Spybot scan the other day. You know hoe many things Adaware found? 8! And they were cookies that I knew about! Using IE, I would accumulate around 50-100 adware files over a month or two.

This is why i switched, i got tired of dealing with all the extra software needed for ie(popup blocker, spyware scanner/blockers, edited host files, ect). I dont need any of that stuff anymore, i run a spybot scan maybe once a month now just to make sure there was nothing hidden in anything i installed.

Ooooh big words from the "car guy."

If I use Windows at home I use Mozilla. Pages load quickly. Plugins don't interest me (although they work just fine). I get no pop-ups. Windows automatically downloads updates. I'm not sure what the antivirus or wannabe firewall has to do with this though.

All I'm saying is that everyone here is acting as though Bin Laden is trying to break into their computer or r@pe them or something. If you keep your system up to date with security fixes, keep your virus defs updated, run a decent firewall and not do stupid sh!t you should be fine.

I can agree with that. People are stupid though.

And I'll admit I click on most of the car threads I see you post

I see no reason for anyone to desire this thing over IE, i could see maybe if IE was not built in to windows but with something that is better already there, why bother? i mean you get all of your updates thru windows update and its easy.

Doesnt IE security holes affect you still since ITS BUILT INTO THE OPERATING SYSTEM SO WE ARE ALL FVKED NO MATTER WHAT
No. Have no IE parts running, and you get no IE holes.
You don't have to have it running, you know...

Or run a single installer every month or two and be done with it (assuming you want to be up to date).
- No AV software running.
- No viruses (I check, but get so few I don't bother running the realtime check w/ NAV).
- No personal firewall (smoothwall).
- Updates are forced on me at logon.
- I'm doing fine, and with fewer layers of crap on my PC.

Unless IE gets tabs and a download manager, it won't be worth using. Browsing forums w/ tabs =

I used to use Opera. Tabs, custom stylesheets...great.
Then Mozilla came and Opera started using banners. Easy decision to make. And unless you're on a PII 500 or less, or maybe have an amazingly bloated install, the speed difference is nothing.
