Confirmed. Vista/W7 only.
Thanks! That should be up front. For now it makes for a moot issue.

WHy isn't there a spell checker? That's an application killer for me right there. I love FF for that feature.
I installed it and so far it's fine. However, how can I make the tabs and address bar go to the title bar? Like in the first Engadget screenshot:
That's how my FF4 is configured now and that's how Chrome has always been (and one of the biggest reasons I was using it, no wasted space!).
Anyone knows how can I do the same in IE9?
They are running in full screen mode, F11
Second, where's the back and forward dropdown menus?
Looks to be a good browser in general, but I see two retarded changes with this.
First, the title bar is absolutely useless.. it's just an aero glass bar with no title. It's funny that they put so much work into streamlining the look, but left this big useless bar on the top. The fullscreen look is how it should normally be, but without hiding your taskbar too. Either that, or I wouldn't mind having a title bar with the actual title there.
Second, where's the back and forward dropdown menus? That's definitely an essential feature, especially on those sites that redirects you through a few ads before they take you to the page. This makes it impossible to go back short of pounding the back command as fast as you could, and even then it's a gamble if that'd work.
And this one isn't to bash the browser, but html5 is quite system intensive. I have a 1.5GHz Pentium-M(runs 720p video) with Intel 915 graphics(DX9, runs UT2004 1024x768 med settings), and html5 sites turn into a slideshow with cpu utilization at 100%. Flash seems to be able to do the same with less resources, which is quite surprising to me given flash' reputation for being a resource hog.
EDIT: I just figured out the second one. Right click the forward or back buttons to bring the dropdown menu down. That took a bit of trial and error.
Totally agree about the useless titlebar. MS put so much effort for the browser to use as little space as possible and they leave the titlebar - and there's absolutely nothing in it.
But for me the fullscreen mode is awesome. I always run my browser on the second screen (taskbar on the first one) and the way it works is amazing. I have all the information available (link details by hovering on said link). I don't need anything else actually. I move my mouse to the top and the tab bar shows up and doesn't scroll the page down a bit (like it does in FF). And the download manager works nice too
I'm actually looking forward to the final release as there's a chance it will make me go back to IE (using AdMuncher for ads).
If you install IE9 beta, can you uninstall it and go back to IE8?
I would like to play with IE9, but I also maintain web sites and need to be able to test them IE8. HTML5 and CSS3 implementaions in IE9 may be interesting, but none of the released browsers implement them well.
Cool I am using Ad Muncher as well for ads! Such a great program and the author is top notch! The best thing is it doesn't just block ads from browsers! I wonder why so many people don't know about ad muncher ? Makes it so much easier to use two or more browsers at once.
Yes, AdMuncher is amazing. And the fact that the block is system-wide is great (so no adds in other programs too, like a communicator). Also, no extra add-ons required for any browsers. It's also another layer of protection in my system (as the things get filtered before they even reach my browser or other programs). Got it when they were still selling lifetime licenses so I'm good to go for a looong time Though I would gladly pay the yearly subscription as they have it now. I can't see myself browsing the Web without AdMuncher tbh.
As for IE9 - it has great performance, scrolling, zooming and scrolling when zoomed is soo smooth it's amazing. I thought Chrome was nice and smooth but now I think the scrolling is choppy and I can't see myself going back... Looking forward to the final release
I like it...How can you move the tabs below the address bar though? Still playing with it but haven't sat down to figure that out.
It's fast. I have been using FF for years now, but lately I get lag replying in forums. My characters are all delayed. Launching the same site in IE and replying is instant.
Makes my 3.8GHz quad core with 4GB and ultra fast HD feel like running a Celeron 300A today.
I'm not terribly impressed with the IE 9 beta. The only thing I could make it run faster than Firefox or Chrome on was the Microsoft Psychedelic test. In every javascript benchmark I ran, Chrome and Firefox outperformed IE 9. In one Flash game test I ran, Chrome ran it noticeably smoother than IE 9.
If you can understand the technical reasons for why DX10/11 aren't on WinXP, then you'll understand the technical reasons for why IE9 is not on XP either. No IE9 for Windows XP. No DirectX 11 for Windows XP. It seems Microshit is trying to force people to 'upgrade' to Windows 7. They wouldn't do that, would they?
