You can't get away with saying "hip-hop" without a CMR fan stepping in. I admit they make songs that can get you pumped up and you can dance to, but they have no substance. That is why they are at high-risk to get replaced by a similar group that just happens to be more hyped. I mean look at Turk's lines for example, half of them use the format "I'll (blank) you like a (blank)-er"... i.e. "I'll kill you like a killer, hit you like a hitter, eat you like an eatter, etc." . And as much hype as Manny Fresh gets, his beats are ridiculously similar. Leave that music for clubs and parties, but that's it.
Btw, did anyone go to the Spitkicker concert in D.C. at the 9:30 club? I was there Saturday and it was AMAZING. I haven't gone to many concerts in my life, maybe 5-6, but this was the best. Talib Kweli started out and performed both past songs and songs from his new album Train of Thought. Then Biz Markie came on and spun records from a decade ago, which the crowd greatly enjoyed. Common stole the show with a time-traveling set, in which he changed clothing based on the theme of his songs, both from past and the current albums. Finally De La Soul came on and performed both songs of old and new. Pharoahe Monch had laryngitis or something so he wasn't available, but they still played "Simon Says"... it was great, they put on strobe lights and sprayed water into the crowd, while everyone was jumping up and down and going wild! The concert was simply a gem which I will remember for a long time.
