OMG, HE CLASSIFIED CANNIBUS WITH EMINEM!!!! ill put it to you like this, Cannibus is one of the swiftest rappers out there, and for you to say that whatever he raps just rhymes, and has no msg, makes me think that you dont even listen to what he is saying.

second, about eminem, he is a great freestylist, but a bad rapper. i dont like his rapping style, but ill give him props when it comes to freestyling.

third, mosdef, when they refer to people as crackas, its not all white people, it is those that are ignorant, and try to uphold the society that DP rhymes about. i dont agree wtih all that they say, but like i said earlier, i understand.

oh yea, i listen to different hiphop when im in different moods.

i listen to that nore, triple six, and mainstream ish when im trying to get pumped up, or trying to pimp

i listen to the concious hiphop when im trying to chill out, or get some inspiration.

i also listen to slow hiphop when im trying to chill out so long as the beats are tight. i dont care bout lyrics at this point.

for an album to be tight, they have to have good lyrics, as well as tight beats. an example: Dead Prez - Lets Get Free!; Gangstarr - Moment of Truth.

gangstarr's album is one of my favorites of all time.

I also like the old Snoop and Dre, Outkast, Gangstarr, Tribe, BIG, LB, Method Man, Canibus, Drag-On, Naughty by Nature...more that I'm not thinking of right now...

<< lyrically he is weak >>

?? :Q

I'll throw out a couple of examples:

<< Who wanna battle?
I'm bad to the bone marrow
The Earth got one sun but I walk with three shadows
With Allah, my supernatural bodyguard
N****z couldn't touch me if they gave me a massage
>>

<< Y'all n****z is wack, rappin over microphone feedback
My intelligence begins where yours peaks at
>>

<< My concrete jungle is like Jumanji
But iller than what you seen in the cinema
A five foot eight n***a wit more horsepower than twelve cylinders
My brain consists of twin pentium chips
That's double the clock speeds of a 5-86
And nuttin about my physical matrix is basic
I kick flavor beyond what your tongue is capable of tastin
You'll be so surprised you won't believe your own eyes
It's like explainin color to a man that was born blind
One of a kind, I got divine chromosomes in me
My sperm'll scramble the eggs in a women's ovaries
>>

That last one was a freestyle too. Cmon, no one can touch that. No one has ever made my jaw drop more times than Canibus - he's got the most venomous lyrics ever, no one can touch him, plain and simple.

What ARE you talking about, KidViciou$? Canibus says nothing in his songs. He talks about f'ing you up. I love his lyrics cuz they are almost always on point, but just cuz you ride his d!ck doesn't mean that he has concepts. Or at least compared to almost every other artist. Dare I say it, even the Hot Boys have more concepts than Canibus, and they are ignorant mofos. But yeah, Canibus in a battle cannot be defeated. Did you all hear about how KRS-1 called him out? He said he'd end Canibus's career if they ever battled. That cracks me up, I mean KRS-1 is like a top 5 MC of all time but I don't think in his old age he can call other people out, especially not Canibus.

mosdef, have you ever heard his 1st CD? N***anometry, I Honor U, Channel Zero, What's Goin On, and Hype-Nitis all had points to them. And they were actually good - they had messages to them. If he didn't do that CD while he was on tour, it woulda been much better, he coulda had much more focus on the project. 2000BC focused more on straight hardcore points because that's what he's best at, and that's all he wanted to do at that point.

genocide - Please enlighten me. What concepts? I'd love to hear why I'm wrong. Haha btw I can't believe you use Nigganometry as an example of Canibus's best work .

Wel, granted that Nigganometry wasn't the best track on the disc, he made it interesting, like the first 'problem' that he talks about (anyone who's heard the song knows what I'm talkin about). And I'm not saying you're wrong, because 2000 B.C. is exaclty what you described. He had some ideas on Can-I-Bus though, I Honor U was a dedication to his mother, from the viewpoint of an unborn fetus. What's Going On sent out a message to stop the gunplay in the clubs. Channel Zero was a bunch of Conspiracy Theory BS IMO, but it still made a point. Hype-Nitis was all about how people change when they hit the mainstream and that sort of thing. For the most part he doesn't do stuff like this, but he doesn't just limit himself to straight battle tracks.

Well we're never gonna end this battle cuz Canibus is a tight freestyler but overall he is weak awesome dude..

of course i put him in the same category wit Nore, cuz both of them have wack lyrics but a tight flow.. Nore's production is betta than Canibus anyway..

Wack lyrics?!!? You've gotta be kiddin me! He's got the tightest lyrics around - period.

Noreaga does have some of the weakest lyrics around, and he shouldn't even be put in the same catagory as Canibus.

Canibus is an idiot.

1) he has a convicted rapist as a guest on a track
2) "nobody can eat a N****Z ass like me"

How about one of Mr Tyson's line on 2nd Round KO- "canibus, thats what you do, eat eat eat emcees"

To Iron Mike a cannibal and canibus are the same things

I like Mos Def, but don't think that he would beat Bus in a battle. His freestyles aren't that great. Now I got my money on Supernatural, Sage Francis, Juice, J-Live, Gift of Gab, or Eminem (in a battle, his album material sucks a$$)

For those who don't know about Sage, check him out, he is the main emcee for Non-Prophets, whom you can find at non-prophets.com I believe. Straight edge, concious, brilliant rhyme. He has an alter ego Xaul Zan that he enters in battles as. Dresses up in a Iron Maiden jean jacket, straight hessian gear and slays folks.

Its Likwit Crew
The Lootpack is tight (part of Likwit)
I just got the new Last Emperor album - pure niceness
Aceyalone is an icon
Jurassic 5 brings it with such flavor Takin 4 emcees and make it sound like one
Blackalicious (all of Quannum actually)
The Roots - don't need to say anything else about them
People Under the Stairs deserve a listen to
Hieroglyphics

um, I am done for now (got to get back to work.) But if you folks like good discussion and general online mayhem check out the forums at http://www.undergroundhiphop.com we know how to get down over there

Lyrically, Canibus's last album was kinda weak. Some of the production on that LP was nasty, even if the lyrics were alright. I'd put him in the same category as Eminem, ok album but a better freestyler. I'd actually rahter listen to Eminem's latest than listen to 2000 BC.

Emminem's latest album isn't very good at all.

He tried too hard to distinguish himself from the MTV kiddies. All his songs have turned into shock-rap and sounds like crap.

There is one truely original, clever song on that CD and its the song about that fan Stan. The premise of the song is creepy to think about, but its original and I love originality.

either i didnt make myself clear, or mosdef, you dont understand me. your right, cannibus DOESNT have a msg, what he has though is LYRCIS and metaphors that make you think. thats what i give him props for, and it aint me jockin his dick. its me representing to someone who was degrading true talent. just because i clarify an mc's skills does not mean im jockin their dick.

Hey, Nelly isn't so bad...a bit pop-ish yes, but it's all good. IMO, Bone Thugs N Harmony all the way! There is no one, and I mean no one out there like them. They have the most distinct sound...I also like DJ Quick...anything I can dance to. DMX, Juvenile, etc. I like the new generation...

P.S. Eminem sucks and without Dre, he'd be nothing. Has anyone heard Christina Aguilera's response to his 'Real Slim Shady' song?

Hah, if anything, Dre made him worse. All he does now is rap about himself. Slim Shady LP is still his best because he wasn't all into himself like he is now.

DMX and Juvenile are garbage, even worse than Nelly.

afronhappy Imma have some fun with you.

Bone Thugs N Harmony all the way! There is no one, and I mean no one out there like them. They have the most distinct sound- not true, every Tuesday when the Sanitation Engineer comes by my house I hear the same thing

DMX, Juvenile, etc. I like the new generation- no you like whatever the crap that Mtv is force feeding you this week.

The new generation is people with functioning brains that don't speak strictly on monetary items and killing people.

I.E.
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Blackalicious
Latyrx
Dead Prez
Atmosphere
Anticon
Jurassic 5
Hieroglyphics
Anti-pop Consortium
J-Live
The Last Emperor
Prince Paul
De La Soul <------Still new school after all these years
Skitzofrenics
Esoteric & L7
Aceyalone & the rest of Freestyle Fellowship

There are many, many more out there.

Like Flavor Flav said back in the day

Don't
Don't

Don't

Believe the hype

P.S. Eminem sucks and without Dre, he'd be nothing. Has anyone heard Christina Aguilera's response to his 'Real Slim Shady' song?

1) Eminem's early stuff like Infinite EP and the Slim Shady EP before Dre dropped his crappy production on it was much better than both of his LP's.

2) It's not Christina, and if you are going to dis somebody it's utterly wack to use thier beat. All that says is "I am utterly uncreative."

Highme...here we go again. Another self-righteous, I-know-all-there-is-to-know-about-hip-hop egotist extraordinare. First of all, simply because a hip hop song actually gets played on *gasp* MTV or TRL, doesn't mean that it isn't hip-hop, or that it's crap. You may not like it, and that's fine, but to write it off simply because it's in the top ten is lame. And just FYI, I don't watch MTV, so come correct or don't come at all.

Sounds to me like you're threatened by music that actually breaks free from the underground. Hey, if it tickles your pickle, then go for it. But don't condescend to me like I'm some half-wit child. Try a little mainstream, you might actually find that some of it is pretty decent...

P.S. Eminem sucks no matter what...before dre, after dre...and I don't care whether it was Christina or not, it was damned funny. They were being ironic by using his own beat...it was a parody...get it?

P.S.S I forgot to mention the spooks...they're good...so go ahead and tell me why they're not.

afronappy,

All of us hate the mainstream sh|t, not because it IS mainstream, but the fact that all the rappers have no talent. Listen to the lyrics by any of Cash Money or the Ruff Ryders or most other mainstream garbage and you'll understand. Rhyming "Ya undertand" with "Ya understand" in every line is irritating and shows no creativity in the least.

I got pretty good new CD just recently. Its of Defari. His beats and lyrics aren't incredibly original but I like his sound. He has a couple of guest artists like Tash (from the Alkoholics) and Xzibit.

Oh BTW!!! Black Eyed Peas are releasing a new album soon. Keep an eye out for it (unless its already out, in which case I'd feel pretty stupid ).

Anyone heard the new Jurassic 5? I'm planning on getting it soon and I wanted to know if it was any good...

Haha this thread is blowing up!

genocide - Ah finally we can agree on... GET THAT J5. It's so fresh. And at Best Buy they were selling it for like $7!

afronappy - Not to get too deep into this, but the reason I don't like commercial acts is because they are all alike. There is a pretty obvious formula for selling CDs, and all the mainstream acts follow that formula. If you talk about sex, guns, money, drugs, and murder you're far more likely to go platinum than if you don't. And that just disgusts me, how people prefer to be sell-out, fake-ass entertainers over intellects.

Layzie - Three-6-Mafia sucks. I hate to stereotype but the only group I like out of the south is Outkast. I hate the CMR and No Limit types. I also don't understand why people like UGK and 8-Ball & MJG so much. To me it seems that every other two lines they rhyme pimp and simp!

highme - Where did you get Last Emperor and J-Live?! I'm looking for them!! Drop me a line if you read this!
