I would think that while her saying she wanted someone to envy her was probably a form of sarcasm and meant as a light hearted joke if nothing else. Rollo, what it seems you have done is taken offense to something rather silly and decided to turn on some kind of defense mechanism in return by stating the following facts:

Sorry chief. A free 9700 Pro just won't make me envy you.
1. I have a 9800Pro, so I don't envy 9700Pros
2. I have $250 to blow, so I don't envy you getting something that I could just buy without thinking twice about.
3. Most of all, if you envy other people for their possessions, you always lose, because someone else always has better stuff than you do. (no matter who you are)

1. Personally, I am glad that you have a 9800 Pro, I have one also and love it, but what does that matter in the context of the original post? I know that a 9800 Pro is better than a 9700 Pro, but she was making a light hearted comment, not commanding that she had the most superior card in the world.

2. It is also great that you have the available funds to afford a $250 dollar video card at any time, but I hardly see the relevance of your financial situation to the original post. This is pure gloating, plain and simple, pointless and if nothing else rude...not everyone else has the ability to do this, why do you feel the need to make them feel inadequate?

3. This is true, but why are you going to envy someone else's possessions anyway? With your logic, there should be no envy, which is great, but where did the poster even begin to say that her stuff was better than everyone else's? She did not...

Rollo, I hope you have enjoyed making your self look like a rude jerk, because you certainly did a fine job of it.

Gozu, enjoy the card and best of luck to you with the 9700 Pro...awesome card...and even better when it's free!

Gozu, tell that dude you met online to give you the fx5900 or Radeon 9800pro for free. He does not need to high powered videocards. And I'll buy one off you. Come on work your magic. Please

Jdogg, you take me more seriously than I took this post, in reponse to yours:

It doesn't matter at all in the context of the first post, it was a reply to
is is the video(card) forum, I don't need to do better than that to get you to envy me!
, a second request for "envy". Pointing out you have no reason to "envy" seems to me a logical response to 2 requests for it.

See above, and I hardly think it's "gloating" to say you can afford a $250 video card. It's not like I said "Hahaha, I am rich and paltry purchases like this are of no consequence to a big shot like me!". (for one thing, it would be a FAR from the truth)
Nope, I just said that I'm not going to envy someone for $250 worth of free stuff, because that's not a ton of money.

Hahaha, I am rich and paltry purchases like this are of no consequence to a big shot like me!
I have $250 to blow, so I don't envy you getting something that I could just buy without thinking twice about.

You did effectively say it, with maybe less rude language, but the general message was there.
"I have money, I could buy one, I'm better than you for having money."

To me, $250 would be a fair bit of money, not everyone is rich enough to blow $250 on computer parts, they can rarely upgrade.
I'm not being mean to the original poster, but running a GF2MX until now suggests that he doesn;t have money to blow on a computer, otherwise they might have upgraded before now, so maybe to them $250 is quite a bit.
Or maybe they have better things to buy with their money, and aren't obsessed with trying to make other people feel small about only having a 9700Pro rather than 9800Pro.

Until then, I'll keep looping 3d mark 03 and...er...are there any ATI tech demos? Nvidia has some gorgeous ones but I doubt I can run them without their detonators drivers. Ah, found them! they were hidden in the gamer's section

Ummm... wouldn't it be difficult to play CS at 254 fps when the game itself is limited to 99?

I can take you only as serious as you sound, and from the tone of your posts it seems that you were quite serious in making it evident that a $250 dollar video card for free is no big deal and that ultimately you are a better person because you have A)The money to blow on one anytime you feel like it and B)A better card anyway so her post is irrelevant. I belive the poster's second reference to envy was an attempt to continue the the thread as nothing more than a joke, after you made the comment that her luck was nothing more than small potatoes to you. Again, I apologize if I am taking this to seriously, but instead of taking this thread light heartedly like I believe everyone else has, you decided to start cutting people down and gloating, neither of which are very nice or respectful things to do.

Sigh. I in no way meant to imply that "I'm better than anyone". I only meant to say it will take more than a video card to make me envy something.

It's all a matter of perspective anyway, something I might envy (e.g. free Ranger bass boat with 200hp Optimax) wouldn't be a big deal to some people I know.

I probably should have either not responded at all, or left it at "you'll have to get more than a 9700Pro for me to envy you". My apologies to anyone who felt I was being condescending. I can remember the days when every piece of computer equipment was a big deal to me well enough.

BTW- I do think it's a GREAT deal to get a R9700Pro free. That is pretty much as good as it gets for video cards.

This thread is not really worth a response, but I am trying to break 1000 posts this weekend. Since I am here and I am an old man with old fashioned ideas here goes. "It is not polite to brag about your good fortune to others less fortunate." Besides that, you have got to put it in a crappy Athalon 900 system HA,ha ha!! Of course, it is not polite to ridicule the less fortunate either.
