Umm..ok...if you do that, I'll be convinced you have issues

You're a slow learner, aren't you.

A man who knows his issues is better than two in the forest.

Maybe it is because my brain is sleeping, but wtf does that mean?

Good allround training, i would join up but between work, kids, gym and sleep i have little time.

What you could do is find someone to teach you and your kids, together. I saw families coming together all the time -then again, they usually switched schools over to the local family school instead of mine. I went to a school that focused on getting students to black belt and beyond, not just a family-fun center. Friday nights were full contact night. Wednesday was no-contact point sparring night. Screw Wednesday nights, I was there every Friday night. There's nothing like being in the ring 300+ times per year. It's a great workout, and it's fun to see some of the stuff that my 5th dan teacher would do when we could convince him to show off

Actually, since my kids are living with me this is a great idea, might make me more at ease with letting my teenage daughter out of the house too.

I am going to look into this, thank you for the advice Nik.

It's actually a great family activity to be in. I've seen lots of family go in there. However, hopefully your kids are a bit older then 5-8 years old. I'm in TKD myself and I found that kids between the age of 4-8 or so are kinda hard to teach. They lack the discipline. Not all kids are like that, but I found several of them are.

At first, sure. But over the years, discipline will come, as long as the teacher doesn't let them get away with fooling around in class. Sabumnim never let any of the younger kids get away with crap. If they goofed around (which they did... a LOT), he gave them pushups. Trust me, they learn to stop fusking around when they've done six sets of 30 pushups and being yelled at every day.

my kids are teens except for my toddler but he is too young.

They are very well aware of what to do and what not to do and i think it is better to do that than to take them down to the gym, hard gym training is not a good thing for a growing body.

Your yellow belt and you teach?!? Or was that a yellow belt I was in that pic....

white
yellow
yellow w/green stripe
green
green w/blue stripe
blue
blue w/red stripe
red
red w/brown stripe
Poomse (or poom for short) which is half red, half black
1st dan
2nd dan
etc

Officially, I stopped at green, but I could beat any two 2nd dan in the ring at the same time, so Sabumnim gave me a teaching position. I was learning advanced curriculum. When I finally quit to persue school full time (no work == no money for TKD), I was going through red belt curriculum.

Plus I was teaching some friends on my own time, in my front yard, because they didn't have the money to join.

That's actually pretty interesting...

What Sa Boo Nim were you under?

Under the Tae Eun Lee school, it's a tad bit different

white
yellow
orange
green
blue
blue with red stripe
red
red with black stripe
black with 1st dan
2nd dan
3rd dan
4th dan
and so on

PS, were you also forced to learn korean? We have to for every belt level we undertake.

It's not so bad though when you can speak a little korean with those korean ladies...which are very attractive =)

Yeah, that is what i know too, better to use your body, there is actually a local TKD dojo not 100m from where i live, i am going to check it out, my kids are going to love this.

And i could use the excersise, i am thinking of not bulking up during this winter, keeping the fat level pretty constant and just try to train and build on that, then i won't have to loose as much when the summer comes.

This could be a lot of fun, and since my sis owes me favors for taking care of her kids when she is training i have someone to babysit already.

Yup, we are going to try this, if it works out i am going to tell my kids who to thank, so you can expect a thank you note from them.

Jero, I studied under Master John Culbertson who is now 6th dan. He studied under Master Kim who has his own school in Portland, OR, not far from me. Master Kim is 8th dan and President of the World Taekwondo Federation and US West Coast TKD. My school's website is kinda odd, but will give you some decent information about the school itself. Sean Ellis (pictured in the AboutUs section) punched through full contact gear (2.5-inch chest pad) and broke a guy's rib. He's badass. I used to train along side him. I can kick William Morita's ass. Kelly Culbertson, Master Culbertson's daughter, is, like 14 or something and she mops the floor with my ass. Dr Greg Henry is also on my kicked-their-ass list. Dan LaGrow's a HUGE guy and can actually lift me off the ground and throw me across the ring with a solid kick. He hurts.
