hey everyone i'm new to these forums. how is everyone?

I recently purchased a new pc and monitor, and noticed that I have image tearing on every game I play. Games like crysis, bad company 2, battlefield 2. I searched the net and found out about vertical sync, so I went into the nvidia control panel and turned it to 'force on' and it pretty much removed all of the tearing, everything looks smooth now. My question is...should I keep vsync on even when I'm not playing games? are there any disadvantages to it? or is there any other way to get rid of the tearing?

my specs:
windows 7 64 bit
intel i5 2500k 3.30 ghz
8 gb ram
gtx 560 ti superclocked
Asus VE228H monitor, connected by hdmi

The only disadvantages to using vsync are during games. If you're fine with it in your games, then it's fine to leave it on everywhere else.

It would be preferable to just switch on vsync from the in-game settings, but forcing it on wont affect performance outside gaming at all.

Thanks. I found a setting where it turns on vsync only for select programs that I choose, so i did it for my games. @johnxfire, the only game i found with vsync as an in-game option was bad company 2 so i turned it on for that game. I also read that triple buffering helps with the performance issues so I turned that on. Didn't really notice a change but ill keep it on. Tearing sucks, im glad its fixed. thanks everyone.

Can't wait for battlefield 3! one of the reasons I upgraded my pc

triple buffering from your cards control panel has no impact on directx games. only the handful of games that are opengl will be impacted by that setting.
