This is what I've been trying to communicate in this thread but you're right about this being an unpopular opinion here. To me, everything you listed above takes absolute priority. These are the things that have absolutely dominated discussion here for years that are all of a sudden not quite so urgent.
Okay then.

You explained your thoughts.
I explained why they were misguided.
And you go straight back to: "WAHHHHHHH!!!" Leave Donald ALONE!!"
You aren't interested in discussion. You just want to act like nobody else has their priorities right.

Shut the fuck up, clown.

I dunno if thats Circling the Wagons or what.
Fuckin pathetic they made time to draft a document and go around collecting signatures while the country and Capital Hill are in mayhem. Sorry pathetic useless self-serving assholes.

Not surprised. These people have no shame (or souls).

It reminds me of how it's always too soon after some nuts massacre of innocents, to talk any limits on automatic military grade weapons for civilians.

Were any of the signatures from those who stood up, and voted to block the vote count?

Impeachment with conviction would put a smile on my face.
  • the satisfaction of seeing him totally defeated. Not as good as an orange jump suit, but something.
  • the fact he can never run again, though I think he has pretty much burned that bridge this week.
  • that taxpayers will no longer be providing perks, travel allowance, SS protection. He had body guards for decades until he finally reached the point he was warranted SS protection. He can hire body guards on his dime again.
Don't forget his $200K/year pension which I'm sure he'll accept after he leaves office.

Perhaps this will satisfy Pipeline's objection?

House Majority Whip James Clyburn on Sunday said House Democrats might wait until after President-elect Joe Biden's first 100 days in office to send any articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate, a move that would give the incoming President time to tackle his agenda in Congress before the start of a time-consuming trial.

i get the practicality behind it, but the threat to the country is so mortal and grave that any delay is a derelection of duty IMO. the senate trial should be a formality. they shouldn't even need testimony to convict, seeing as there is plenty of evidence already. that will give trump a speedy trial and a speedy boot out of office. in an ideal scenario, trump is out prior to january 20 and there is no impact on a biden administration's agenda.

waiting 100 days could also let trump skip town if he so desired.

Republicans will never go along with impeachment. You can tell they already have resorted to their CODE WORDS. With the election the code words were... count every LEGAL vote, and TRUMP DESERVES HIS DAY IN COURT, and WE HAVE EVIDENCE OF VOTER IRREGULARITIES, now the code words over impeachment are... NOT ENOUGH TIME, NOT ENOUGH INTEREST, NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE, and FURTHER DIVIDING THE COUNTRY. So do not count on ANY Republican, not even one to support impeachment when the tally is called despite what some of them may say now. Don’t believe them. We have learned the hard way never to believe them. Donald Trump is still president and still has a tight grip on their balls, including the republican women.

CNN headline: Clyburn: House may wait until after Biden's first 100 days to send impeachment articles to Senate

Reason for waiting a bit: "a move that would give the incoming President time to tackle his agenda in Congress before the start of a time-consuming trial. "

Person who thinks this strategy is good: "House Majority Whip James Clyburn ". Also, Pipeline 1010 over at Anandtech.

I'm not saying leave him alone I WANT HIS ASS IN JAIL. Stop attacking people who want the same thing as you but who think that order of operation is important, too. I think you need to apologize. You have been a massive asshole to me even though we want the same end goal. We are on the Same. Fucking. Team.

where did you hear that? I thought I read that support for insurrection was polled at about 55-60% within the GOP as recent as yesterday.

Only 5% say "patriots". 79% say "criminals or fools".

I think that is awesome. It's hard to ask any poll question that only results in 5% of people agreeing on something. I almost feel like you could ask "should people be allowed to breath oxygen" and like 7% of people would say "no".

And? That doesn't mean I can't think you're arguing like a moron, for moronic reasons.
I already explained why waiting several months to initiate proceedings would be less-than-ideal.
The fresher these latest events are in specifically senator's minds, the better the chance that the senate will convict on the house's impeachment.

Apologize, lol. Fuck off.

When the ship has struck an iceberg, the order of business tends to shift.

The ship struck the iceberg 4 years ago and help arrives next week. I think we're gonna be OK. Dems in congress are already considering giving Biden time to implement his agenda before going after Trump. It's not only me over at Anandtech who thinks this might be an ok priority.

Yeah, obviously it's not only you. That doesn't suddenly make it a better argument. Playing this slow is a mistake.

There are literally Democrat leaders in congress who agree with me. It is OK for you to disagree with me and with them. I'm OK with that. Yet your explanations didn't convince me. That's your fault. Unless you are gonna call Clyburn a fucking clown too then you need to tone it down and disagree like a grownup. Calling someone a "fucking clown" for wanting to help the people who are hurting is a dick move in any context.

Do you think the dems in congress are stupid? I think you are wrong. Nobody will ever forget the shit we have been put through.

If Mitch fails to act or refuses to call a vote and the Orange Turd causes something else, could Mitch be held criminally liable?

Mitch isn't refusing to do anything, he's just slow walking the actual trial in the Senate. Not justifying what Mitch is doing, just that it won't have any practical effect and it is his nature-to protect the GOP no matter what.

I disagree simply because I think there are more urgent things to work on right this minute. I have seen people here argue that this is only gonna take 2 hours on Monday and then it is done. It will not only take 2 hours. Impeachment has never been a fast thing that takes so little effort that everyone in government has tons of time to take on lots of other stuff. If you wanna do it right it has to take time. I would love to be wrong. I would love it. I want my posts to age like milk and for everyone to laugh at me. I don't think that will happen, but I will laugh at me too if I end up wrong, because I will be filled with joy.

Playing this fast would be sloppy and ineffective and would siphon important resources from where they are urgently needed.

This has changed only as outrage mounts. Initially 45% of republicans supported them.

If Dems want to expedite things they can, this isn't a valid argument. The bills you have as priorities are pretty much already written or even passed by the house.

There is a slim chance it'd go through now. Zero chance it will in 100 days. You have to strike while the iron is hot.

I think they would be smarter to push the house Vote this week, and dump it on McConnell's desk and let him be the one to refuse to do anything with it, until later, make him the guy that stonewalled justice for the insurrectionist tyrant.

Slim Republican support will only get slimmer the further we get from the event. This part Ninja'd by Zorba.

The problem is doing that dumps it on Shumers lap. Shumer becomes majority leader the moment Harris is sworn in. Senate resumes session on the 19th, Shumer becomes Majority Leader on the 20th.

Then make it a low effort fast track, side activity. I think it has ZERO chance of passing once Trump is out of office, as it's much harder to make any kind of argument about preventing him from doing more damage.

Reading between the lines, I believe the game plan is to Impeach in the house, and then (with a pardon off the table) criminally prosecute in Federal Court. This would render the Senate trial moot.

With the death of 4 people caused by the insurrection/riot, Felony Murder charges could be be on the table.
The death penalty may not be imposed if the defendant is merely a minor participant and did not actually kill or intend to kill. However, the death penalty may be imposed if the defendant is a major participant in the underlying felony and exhibits extreme indifference to human life.
Calling on a mob of possibly violent people together, working them into a frenzy, and sending them off to storm the Capital Building probably qualifies as being a 'major participant.'

This would probably go a long way towards permanently getting rid of the death penalty.
