Important, help please.

I have an annoying "hacker" of some sort who floods my cable modem and ZoneAlarm can not block, nor detect the packets being sent but it completely wipes out my cable modem and the signal light is solid green meaning heavy activity, ipconfig /release and /renew doesnt work because it goes right back to the same ip address, how can I stop this attack and/or find the ip that is attacking me and report that person? Your speedy help will be greatly appreciated.

maybe your service could give you a new ip address if you explained the situation.

get a good firewall and if configured properly it will block any attacks. Just monitor all your open ports and see which one all the traffic is on. or close down everything and do a netstat to see what kind of activity is going on.

go to tucows, or any shareware site. You mentioned you have ZoneAlarm, I've never used it but I believe it has firewall capabilities. Basically, all you need to do is shutdown all non-essential ports, and if your still having the same problem enable some form of logging on your open ports to see what traffic is going in/out of your comp.

Let your ISP know and I'm pretty sure your ISP will found out the "hackers" ISP and take care of him

If you find out what ip it's coming from, im sure someone would be happy to smurf the little f*cker for you. I hate packet kiddies. I also say a firewall is the way to go. If you have a router, it generally has a built in firewall which is great. If not, just get a free one and good luck. Get the little sob.
