i think intel does a good job with the pushpin technology, but i still don't
like that approach to mounting heatsinks.

Yes!! Yes, yes yes yes!!

When I first saw the Vendetta 2's top-side bracket assembly with the push-pins, I had posted my speculations here on the forums that you could use that TR bracket-kit.

But you would have cut off the pushpins, wouldn't you? Or do they dissassemble for re-use or reee-sale?

On another note, if you are going to use the pushpins, best to have the mobo out of the case. And further, get two big squares of cardboard, lay them flat on a solid, flat surface so that each two diagonal pair of pushpins you are securing have their bottom-side tips between the two cardboard pieces.

There are probably better ideas to protect both the motherboards and the pins. I actually bent one split end of the barbed white-nylon pins, but didn't break it.

You'd think this thread is more appropriate for the "Cases and Cooling" forum, but no problem for me. Just thought I'd mention it . . . .

somehow my nimble hands managed to take the push pin off without destroying them, but it takes like 20 min to do it and loads of patience. I only keep it in case of resell in the future.

Help me here, trying to install E8400 retail box HSF on Asus P5Q Pro.

I got the slots pointed the right way (perpendicular, pointing out).

I push like a mother on it. I installed the mobo to the case first because that's what both the mobo AND cpu instructions say to do. Anyway, the pins won't go in any farther without really bending the mobo.

The instructions say to pull on the pins to make sure they are seated. Well, if I pull a little bit, they sort of pop out 1mm or so (very slightly).

But if I really pull hard (I mean quite hard) the whole HSF will pop off. Does that sound right? It's definitely on there pretty good but I can pull it off if I wanted to.

edit: OK I pulled the board out of the case, even though I really didn't want to... it looks like the pins are seated ok but the mobo is curved pretty good near the cpu and if I flex it a little one of the pins pops out. I think it should be ok once it's all together but MAN does this setup suck.... I mean BAD. Why did they do this?
