Hard drives are rarely a bottleneck these days. 4 GB of system RAM is dirt cheap and can hold most of today's demanding apps and games entirely in memory.
This is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Demanding apps and games are designed to fit into 4GB of RAM because that is a technical upper limit on a popular architecture.
