it depends what type of thing you are into.

arlington has a lot of nice bars itself. it doesn't have much of a dancing nightlife though.

if you wanna go to a more dancing nightlife area with easy access on the metro i'd suggest taking the metro to farragaut north which is close to dupont circle. like a block away from the stop is a nice little area with nightlife - 1223, Five, Lucky Bar, Andalou (kind of ghetto but fun), Fly, and a bunch of others.

you can also try to hit up adams morgan. the metro doesn't go right there however. i agree with the poster above saying it's more of a college crowd there. it has a TON of bars and is just like one big ass strip, but everytime I go i ALWAYS see fights out on the street after hours.

georgetown is also very nice, right on the waterfront. again though, the metro doesn't go there, but it's right over the river and a cab ride is not very expensive. it looks like its going to be a nice weekend around DC and the waterfront in DC is a really nice place to go when it's nice outside.

there are some nice places too, loungy with dance music, around k street (and i THINK 14th but not sure the intersection) that is a nice place to go. no metro really goes near there though.

dunno if you wanna go into maryland, but bethesda (metro goes right there too) has a ton of good restaraunts and bars as well. i'd say bethesda is very comparable to arlington though.

there are a ton of other places to go as well, just depends on what you are into.

im guessing youre staying around rosslyn? continental is a relaxed pool bar there, good place to grab a beer.

you can head away from dc on the orange line back through arlington and at each of the first 4 stops you'll go through there are a number of bars and restaurants.

1. courthouse: four courts is a great irish bar.
2. clarendon: a lot of choices here, liberty tavern is a good bet.
3. va square: go one more stop to ballston.
4. ballston: the mall a short walk away actually has 3 nice places. baileys - lots of tvs, pool/darts, very large. union jacks - good specials. rock bottom - restaurant and brewery, they don't get too crazy with any of their brews, but very good overall. outside of the mall there are a few more bars. carpool is very casual, but can be crowded on a nice night.

brickskeller is pretty cool, however they don't have all of the beers all the time.

i've only been there like 3 times but last time i went i asked for a few beers that they didn't have any of at the current time. it was rare stuff that i'm sure they don't have an overstock of.

You know that is just plain silly. I have lived in the DC area my entire life and have never been afraid to go into DC at night. This includes some of the worst periods of violence in DC's history when it had earned the title of murder capitol of the US. Even during that time unless you went into those areas where the shootings were taking place it was no more unsafe than any other city. You are in more danger of being puked on by some drunken college student in any of the nightlife areas than being shot.

If I caught you on time, you might want to try Ray's Hell Burger or Ray's the Steaks. They're both very close to where you are staying since they're in Rosslyn.

Well last night I went downtown and was way out of place. Tonight was great walking around. Gonna just eat and hang out in Arlington tonight. Tomorrow is the Capitol tour, then probably gonna chill in Georgetown at night. Nationals game and Arlington on Sunday, not sure where I'll go out Sunday night, unless some ATOT'ers wanna meet up to drank.
