Wow I didn't realize Five Guys was so big! I thought they were still just a local thing in D.C. They are good. Damn, you guys are making me want one.

I have to admit I live In-N-Out, last time I was in Cali I ate there. It's way better than McD's, Wendy's, or Burger King.

I will go as far as to say In and Out was the best burger I had when I flew out to San Diego last year. That's to say the only burger I had while there.

I am a So Cal native and I don't care for In N Out...

Flimsy small ass fried patties, greasy as fuck, no thanks, Wendy's or Carls is better in the same price point.

And they have THE worst fries ever

You probably went too much. I went way too much during my last years of high school that I never went for the first 2 years of college. Then I tried a Big Mac for the sake of craving In-n-Out my 2nd year in college and I nearly threw up. Never again did I get a Mcdonalds burger. I started loving In-n-Out again before I graduated. Just don't go TOO often =)

Like I said. Fries well done w/ their spread = win.

There are two Five Guys in the Chicago area. I've tried them both and like them, but damn they are expensive.

I'm traveling to the Bay Area over Labor Day weekend, so I will make sure to get some In & Out again on that trip. Oh yeah, In & Out has the hottest president, too bad she's a huge bitch though.

Chicago needs more Culver's. I want a butterburger!

I have a Five Guys a couple of miles from the house. It's fantastic. Double bacon w/ cheese and cajun fries... bliss...

In and out is a bit cheaper I think...

that said I went to one in AZ twice, both time the line was out the door and I waited 5mins+ before bailing.

Went to a Five Guys today and it was nice and tasty...a little small so next time I will order two patties.

that must have been when in n out first showed up. when the first one came to az the lines were literally miles long for drive thru and forget even seeing the front door. i waited until there were a few around town before even trying it, i doubt i would have thought it was worth the wait. theres one down the street from us, the burgers are fairly cheap and not disgusting. way better than mcdonalds, i tend to like their fries also. if i want a great burger ill go to giant hamburger and wait for it. if i want a decent burger fast, ill go to in n out or jitb.

I agree with OP. In and out was just meh to me. I really don't know why so many people love them. I thought Jack-in-the-box was way better. But Im from New England where our fast food burger place selection sucks, so I dont have a lot to compare them to.

the sourdough jack is the best fast food burger made. if you can get the place to make it fresh.

same here. i've never really been impressed with them, and was always confused about their massive following.

hell, tbh i prefer mcdonalds. vastly cheaper and to me, better taste.

I would keep this to myself. It says more about you than it says about In-n-out

my biggest complaint is the fries. always grease sponges, though I suppose I'm doing it wrong? Am I supposed to order them double-fried or "done" or something vague yet innocuous?

No, I will not order them animal style--I do that on the burger occasionally and to do so on both is freaking disgusting. I'd rather the burger without it, tbh, as I'd prefer to taste the actual burger.

They don't fry them right or something. I make ones at home with cut up fresh potatoes and they come out worlds better. I don't hate their fries, but there's something I can't exact put my finger on that's strange. I won't dispute their Burgers are out of this world, but the fries need work.

You're used to McDonalds crispiness. Ask for them well done. It's what I do. If you don't like it as potatoey, then well done rocks.

yup

fries well = awesome

Burgers suck, french fries suck, so there is only so much In-N-Out can do if that's pretty much all they sell.

We don't get any of these good chains in New England (at least in MA).
All we get here are the standards (McD, BK, Wendy's, etc.)
I want to try In-N-Out.
I want to try Five Guys.
I want to try Sonic's.

I can't find anymore in FL; I think they closed because people here didn't like them. Maybe I need to try one up North?

I want someone to tell me what is so great about their burgers. I'll bet you can't, because they aren't special, they're just another patty of ground beef put on a bun and without the special sauce.

As for their fries, if you let them sit for more than two minutes they are just limp greasy potatoes. I don't care how much you like fries, limp greasy potatoes are not appealing.

Their shakes are great, but too small and far too expensive. When I order a shake I want something substantial, not a little cup of froth.

In-N-Out sucks compared to the other chain burger joints.

Hmmm, I haven't tried #9, but it just has to be better than McDonald's.

Fat Burger SUCKS, it's stupid expensive for what you get. And their Chili is awful. Even Fat Burger was half the price it was now, I probably still wouldn't eat there. The Hot Dogs are bad, the burgers are bad, I did like one of the types of fries they had. But I refuse to eat there, Jack In The Box is infinitely better. I took a girl there years ago (7-8) she got a chili dog, I got a burger, we split a chili fry, she got a milkshake I got a water and it was about 20 bucks. RETARDED. I have to imagine it's even more expensive now.

BTW, I tried an A&W burger today along with their hot dog. They are priced at something like $1.50ea. so I wondered what was special about them. Nothing. I'll try their chili cheese fries next time though. It was an A&W / KFC joint so with the free KFC 2-pc meal I decided to give it a go.

Teen Burger, Uncle Burger, or Mozza Burger. The rest are rather on the plain side, but those 3 are very good.
