2nd day back to school and found this email from our kid's school waiting in my inbox when I got home from work. They didn't mention what threat was made, but we all know what was probably said and our kids confirmed it.

I've been thinking about this whole situation more lately given all the hostility going around. Since some governors want to do whatever they want regarding pretty much any law these days, I say the federal side give them what they want. Okay, we won't touch anything related to the 2nd amendment in regards to 'taking weapons', but for every individual involved in a gun related incident - regardless of reason - the state will be fined X millions of dollars. I prefer payable by tax payers, simply because, people don't start worrying about it until they think it's effecting their pocket books (aka the immigration issue).

This of course will impact every facet of human interaction involving a weapon. Law enforcement as well. Hurt the pocket books. You want stupid gun laws? You pay stupid fines for them. It would piss a lot of people off, and probably not actually prevent anything for some time, but it's...at least some sort of movement to make people start reconsidering that every idiot needs an unlicensed free carry everywhere they go.

Usually I'm not really sure how to feel about lawsuits against the manufacturers, but the advertising they were/are using makes them at least somewhat liable for these kinds of outcomes in my opinion. They are the first link in the chain to make these events possible.

I wish the article had more detail on how the advertising was illegal. For now it appears to me like there the legal strategy and there's not much public evidence to support it yet

jfc what the fuck drives people to this

~ A former policeman killed 34 people, including 23 children, during a knife and gun rampage at a daycare centre in northeast Thailand on Thursday, police said, before later shooting dead his wife and child at home and turning his weapon on himself.

Yeah disgusting that since his son wasn’t in class, he just decided to kill as many there before he left.

Horrible and deeply repressed childhood traumatic events of being made to feel worthlless that life events threaten to push into conscious awareness and public awareness as well would be my guess.

Members of DPS (state law enforcement) were on the scene of the Uvalde shooting within minutes and as we know today but did not go into the building which was standard training.

One of the DOS officers was recorded on the scene if her kids were I. The school. She responded, no if they were I wouldn’t be outside”.

Again, we know she and the other DPS officers did not go in to save the kids. CNN uncovered the fact that Uvalde hired that officer who said she would have gone if her kids were in there

CNN breaks the story and now Uvalde has fired her

Incompetence by the state and local governments. I guess Greg Abbott is too busy rounding up people to bus across the country to be worried about the schools

i saw this yesterday.

Thailand has a very big issue with guns. There are just too many out there. Most foreigners are unaware of this, but its a big issue. My guess is this man thought his life was over when he was fired as a police officer. There just aren't many career opportunities for Thais who aren't educated, or don't have a college degree. Thai police aren't paid that well either. It leads to a lot of shady activity, such as bribes taken from others, or they resort to selling drugs like this previous officer. Foreigners have this ignorant misconception that because its a Buddhist nation everyone is kind. I've met mostly kind people while I lived in Bangkok, but there are Thais who aren't as kind. Just like every other country. There are good and bad people. Its a real shame what happened. To take your anger out on innocent helpless children. I read that a lady who was 8 months pregant was a victim as well. Its sickening, and I'll never understand how anyone can target children, and innocent people.

The NRA says this is a lie. The ONLY solution to gun violence is MORE guns. Why weren't those kids armed? Fucking murder schools.

Something tells me that a Thai military junta government backed by imperial decree might just have a bit more success with civilian gun control AFTER this incident. Whether they can actually clean ranks within military/police is another story.

Tangential to the main story, but do have to wonder if CNN would have done the same for a similar event in the US. Though I do mean genuinely wonder - it doesn't seem inconceivable that they'd have been equally insensitive, but it could also be because the victims here were not American.

CNN has said it deeply regrets any distress caused by its report on the nursery killings in north-east Thailand, after its footage of the building’s blood-stained floor sparked a police investigation and a debate over how the media should cover such tragedies.

Allegations the team entered without permission emerged after an image, shared on social media, showed the journalists climbing over a small wall and police tape to exit the nursery. Media associations also said the building had been off-limits to journalists.

CNN said the tape wasn’t present when its team entered and that they were given permission by Health Department officials. Had they known that this was not sufficient, they would not have gone inside, a statement from the network said. “We deeply regret any distress or offence our report may have caused, and for any inconvenience to the Thai police at such a distressing time for the country.”

Ok so let me get this straight...

Masks...bad because...personal rights
Vaccines...bad because...personal rights/body autonomy
Abortions...bad because...baby autonomy and consent
Taking kids DNA because we need a way to ID slain kids because of failed gun control...good?

Oh good, with the Michigan teen shooter changing to guilty plea, he’s basically implicated his parents. They deserve to all serve the same sentence together. If Texas wants to charge Dr and the Uber driver, blue states should also be allowed to go after the gun shop owner and the manufacturer.
