Tell you what, if the government will give me $10k per gun to give them up I will give up most of my guns and only keep a few that fall into the hunting, sport and self-defense category.
I hear what you are saying,100Ms of semi-autos are already in circulation, buy backs would have to happen, and law abiding gun owners like yourself aren’t going to part with them for less than a significant profit if even then so it would be prohibitively expensive.
What I’m trying to find is a compromise where some firearms are still available as they are today, semi-autos are still available to law abiding gun owners but with further scrutiny, so that as time goes on the number of semi-autos used to commit double digit massacres drops.
There is no fast workable solution that I can see, but I also don’t accept that yet another massacre of children is acceptable either.
The hollow let’s prevent the mentally ill from getting guns while we try to gut health care doesn’t fly either. The main issue is who are you going to target and how?
Does the government require psychiatrists and psychologists to report everyone they treat for depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, etc so they can be barred from gun ownership? That ends with more untreated mental illness.
