"How could this happen?" say people who made it possible.

Call me when flags are flying at full mast. If you pay attention, you'll notice they are at half-mast more often than not.

And, more to your point, fuck Abbott. If Texas doesn't vote him out, they are a lost cause.

Tell you what, if the government will give me $10k per gun to give them up I will give up most of my guns and only keep a few that fall into the hunting, sport and self-defense category.
I hear what you are saying,100Ms of semi-autos are already in circulation, buy backs would have to happen, and law abiding gun owners like yourself aren’t going to part with them for less than a significant profit if even then so it would be prohibitively expensive.

What I’m trying to find is a compromise where some firearms are still available as they are today, semi-autos are still available to law abiding gun owners but with further scrutiny, so that as time goes on the number of semi-autos used to commit double digit massacres drops.

There is no fast workable solution that I can see, but I also don’t accept that yet another massacre of children is acceptable either.

The hollow let’s prevent the mentally ill from getting guns while we try to gut health care doesn’t fly either. The main issue is who are you going to target and how?

Does the government require psychiatrists and psychologists to report everyone they treat for depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, etc so they can be barred from gun ownership? That ends with more untreated mental illness.

I'm sure this has been the plan. Since Biden mentioned Gun Control a few weeks ago (or was it a week ago) it seems we've had several shootings all involving 18 year olds. I'd hate to think there is a conspiracy going on, but it should make you wonder...

Unfortunately, people will still kill others when a society has been as fucked up as ours has been. More background checks? When will this solve anything? We've already been doing that, and guess what. We have just as many deaths today as before. Someone will buy a gun for another, wipe the serial number, and give it out as a gift... (See the hood for an example) Or there will just be more robberies/burglaries to obtain them illegally. You know, since criminals don't really abide by the law... Putting in more laws isn't necessarily going to fix the problem.

Give people a reason not to kill others (and themselves) might be a better direction. All I see is a culture of death. Every single "rap" song is about "putting a cap in their ass", and every TV show has someone being killed by some psychotic method... Let's not talk about movies. What was the last movie you seen that didn't include someone dying?

But who knows... I'm not a democratic "expert" on this matter. I'm guess those experts would just say "Be gay, because its white straight males who do this."

Practically the whole World consumes this, yet only the US has this problem.

Your last statement is stupid.

Not yet, but Paxton is already going off that the only answer is to arm teachers.
Paxton does not seem to understand how crazy of an idea it would be. Has it crossed his mind yet that a teacher could start a shootout in their own classroom? What's the next thing Paxton would say to that? Probably placing Texas National Guard in every class room?

it is disgusting to read the comments such as yours and others who only see a way to make political hay out of dead brown kids.
Just a question, what is your age? I am asking because of your username. Are you a life long fan of Danny Phantom, or are you in the age group the cartoon was designed for. Just a heads up, if you are in the age group, then we may forgive you for what you just said, because it is understandable that your brain is still very young and under development. By the way, if that was the case, was your parents with you when you signed up and accepted the terms and conditions?

And some might say I'm crazy but I'm realistic that nothing will be done.

Everyday we sacrifice people to the altar of the 2nd amendment. Today it was 20 kids.

It's like a morbid ritual like that episode of Vikings.

So lets triage and save what we can.. excise the cancer and give them their freedumb to do what the fuck they want.
The Republicans in blue states would not agree ever.

Make me wonder what?

The simplest explanation is probably the correct one...not everything is a conspiracy.

You are still forgetting the Militia part though. It should be an organized group with rules etc. that should have to follow state/fed regulations on what a Militia is. Maybe membership dues, monthly training like national guard etc.

This sort of thing always makes me think of Life of Brian ("He said blessed are the cheese-makers" "a shoe! he left us a sign".). Who cares what they meant by 'regulated' - they are long-dead (and were hardly far-seeing paragons of virtue in the first place). Why not think for yourselves?

Republicans: This is a mental health crisis not a gun crisis. Democrats should take that seriously.

Democrats: Then will you spend more on healthcare?

Republicans: No, we will spend much less and make sure the poor can’t get any because to do otherwise is communism.
Actually.... according to Fox News far-right cheerleaders they are requesting to bring back pre-Reagan era mental asylums. The same ones where people who are diagnosed with even Cerebral Paulsy or PTSD get locked up in there for life.

The Tops store had an armed security guard. Do we really want to turn everyplace into an armed fortress?

Is that the answer, more guns? There is a reason every country isn't allowed to posses a nuclear weapon. Same logic.

When do we learn lessons from the past? Texas went the opposite direction. Open carry without training or a permit needs to be repealed.
The Republicans are asking for either that or airport style security checkpoint everywhere.

You nailed it. Semi-auto weapons don't kill people but rap music, cable TV, R-rated movies, and violent video games certainly do.

I don’t know. There seems to be a common thread with these shootings but I just can’t put my finger on it.

Why can't the US government classify the AR-15 in the same group of guns that the AK-47 is classified in, so it is no longer sold.

I'm aware .... still I can't imagine not bothering with any security at all would make it better though.

This is the antivaxers type position. Why do they thing that will actually do the most good for the last cost, when we can do something that is much more expensive for much worse results. Not like a metal detector actually blocks the entrance, the guard would just be shot.

A bit of a misnomer, 18yo were always able to buy long guns in TX. Only pistols and pistol ammunition was restricted to 21, unless something changed from the '06 timeframe when I sold them.

A lot of private instructors are kinda nuts. And not just a little bit.
Nearly all of my instructors have been unsettlingly nuts. But what is worse, is that they pander to the course attendees far-right views. They pander long enough, and they begin to believe it. They turn into mini versions of Alex Jones.

One's an automatic (or at least automatic capable as designed) and one is a semi-automatic, it's unfortunately a very simple distinction.

You can buy a semi-auto version of a AK rifle as long as it isn't restricted in the state you reside in. However the AR-15 is a very popular semi-auto rifle in the US.
