The two aims are not mutually exclusive. India was the most prosperous country on the planet until around 1830. This has been proven without a semblance of a doubt.
Eliminating poverty is not an isolated problem - it is done through institutional changes that first require decisive leadership. Modi can provide that as he as done so in Gujarat.
With more Indians joining the middle class every day, India's economy is bound to improve. Along with that, literacy, civic sense, and other things will fall into place.
The election of Modi is just the start. It will take a couple of decades to undo the damage that Congress has wrought on the country.
India was the global superpower and will once again be so - but not through military might - she has never invaded any country. India will be a global beacon of education, technology, spirituality, resourcefulness, and humanity as it once was (and is still so in some pockets).
India is a Hindu country. Always has been, is, and always will be.
That doesn't mean non-Hindus cannot live there or worship freely. As long as they don't proselytize (which exploits the underprivileged), India can be home to anyone. Those who dislike India, its Hindu character, or Hindu history, can GTFO. That's why Pakistan/Bangladesh was created.
India is secular ONLY because of its Hindu majority. Muslims/Christians (and Jews - but only a handful of them are in India) by nature are tribal and fundamentalist. They cannot coexist with others. Why others? They can't coexist with themselves! With vermin like these, there is no negotiation. India (Hindus) already lost a lot of land (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal etc.) and will continue to do so unless they assert themselves strongly in the face of Abrahamic (and Communist) aggression.
As I said before, get off your ass and read Breaking India by Rajiv Malhotra. If you're too goddamn cheap to buy the book, I'll give you a copy - got a Kindle?
On a brighter note, India will now take its relationship with Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and other ASEAN countries forward.
