Infinite cycle of rebooting..

Alright, all of a sudden the computer is in a repeating cycle of rebooting.

My brother was playing Oblivion and then he tells me that the computer just rebooted. It reboots. I turn it off for about 30 secs and it worked for another 16 minutes. Then it rebooted and now it goes into a cycle of rebooting every time I try to turn it on. It says the bios/version, cpu info, ram, and then it ends up at EM64T CPU for about a split second and then reboots again. It just keeps rebooting after showing the EM64T line for a split second.

Also.. on some occasions if I reset the cmos (jumper) for about 30 secs or so, it gives one long, constant beep.

I think I've got everything listed..

Everything was working fine for about a week. Then finally it worked for 16 mins after this failure and now I'm in an infinite loop of rebooting.

Start by making sure everything is securely mounted. Try and remove one of your mem sticks (I assume you hae 2x1 gb), and see if that helps.

Make sure all your fans are turning. I would remove anything not needed for the system to boot (like extra memory and all drives except for hard drive) and see what it does.

Take your video card out and see if the computer will boot fine on the integrated graphics. If it does stay on, leave it on for a day or so, if it doesnt shut off its problably the gpu.

Alright, I pulled out one of the sticks of ram.. no luck.

I switched that stick of ram for the other one that I pulled out and hm.. I'm on and am replying from my comp.

Faulty ram? Corsair Dominator 2GB cas4 DDR2 800

Check mobo manual for beep codes.

Well, one thing I've noticed is the little code on the motherboard when you boot up.

It freezes on 52, which in the manual says is the Mem Test.

When I see a continous reboot at work it is normally one of two things. 1) Is that the hard drive is failing. 2) Windows has become corrupted either by installing a new program or due to spyware/viruses.

To check the first problem, go here, download this and burn it using a program such as Nero (you can get the trial here).

Burn the ISO image to a CD. Boot from the CD, select the second option and then follow the rest of the on screen instructions. Do an Advanced scan and not just a Quick scan. Let us know what the results are. If the drive passes, then it's highly likely Windows has become corrupted.
