Wow that was retardedly fast for free shipping! I have the LCD already. It looks great.

First thing I did was adjust the brightness to 12 and the contrast to 76. Its default brightness was simply blinding. Any lower on the contrast and colors just seem to darken, any higher and they seem to wash out. I'm going to be trying out some color profiles from HOCP soon. At first glance, I appear to have no dead or stuck pixels. The backlight uniformity is also fantastic, I can't detect any noticeable bleeding. I'll be running some tests on it very soon to give this panel a good run and see how other aspects of it are. Coming from CRTs, I really have very few complaints about this specific LCD. If you guys want pics, let me know what you'd like to see and I'll do my best!

This is amazing pricing for an IPS.

You guys are getting this for a fraction of what we were paying for even the cheapest of the cheap IPS displays a couple years ago

I'm using checkmon and scrolling through a solid screen of colors one at a time. Can't seem to find any stuck or dead pixels with any color.

Color gradients are also looking very nice in that program as well.

Any updates on this issue? Been reading a lot on the HardForums page, and I hate making these decisions.
Should I go ahead and jump on this if I can score it for about $220?

Does it have good black levels? I currently have a 17" Samsung 730B, which I don't think has that great of black levels. Granted, I'll never get the black levels I desire due to the limitations of the LCD tech, but I can most certainly improve... I hope.

If not this monitor, any suggestions?

can you think of anything better you could find for $220?

if yes: you have your answer

if no: you have your answer

I've been out of the monitor market for a long while, and haven't been following it.

Essentially, I don't know if I can find anything better for $220, or I'll pay a little more even... because I don't know what IS better, or what is worse.

Okay, well I tried the live chat once so far, and no go on getting them to budge from $299.

I'm going to try again.
But in the event that I fail yet again, now that bumps the comparison shopping up: are there any better monitors in terms of black levels, contrast, response time, and overall color accuracy... importance not necessarily in that order... basically I'm looking for the most well rounded monitor for $300 or below. Seems like this may be the most well-rounded, with some people commenting on other monitors that excel in a specific area, but when it comes to all of the stats this may be the one?

Name me monitors that are 22" and $300 or less, and if possible detail the Pros and Cons of these monitors. It's for gaming but I don't want to sacrifice color or black levels, or accuracy in general.
Hell, I might even be willing to spend more than $300. Just not $500.

How? Need those details...

I've tried Live Chat 3 times now. One they keep telling me it's $299, and two they keep asking me for business contact shit. Ugh.
Don't feel like doing it over the phone, but if its still working over the phone that might be the only choice.

Still trying to decide between the Dell 2209WA, the LG L227WTG, and now adding in a 120hz LCD into the mix, likely the Samsung 2233rz. Mainly because at some point I'll probably get into the 3d gaming through nVidia, once more games make use of it.

Ordered Dell UltraSharp 2209WA for $212 shipped today. With NY tax it was just under $230 total.

My dell sales rep's name was Sundi Sylvester and she doesn't mind if I post her contact info. Her direct phone line is 512-946-0852. Or dial toll free 1-800-901-3355 ext (9460852). Her email is her name with underscore @dell.com.

Good luck to you. Don't know how long the deal will be available. I tried a few times last week via chat and by calling Marcus J. -- i couldn't get it. I finally got a hold of Sundi, so give her a try. Let him know Daniel sent you, and afterwards let me know if it worked.

Will write more about 2209WA when i get my hands on it. Can't wait...

I'll try that tomorrow. For those of you who goto school at places with accounts at Dell, you can try contacting the Dell Student Sales division at 866-257-4711 and see if you get any luck. I'll also be trying that tomorrow.

EDIT: I actually got through to Sundi just now: $212 offer is in fact still good up to a maximum of 5 monitors. Got it for around $222 due to lower MA state sales tax. Thanks for the heads up reb00t!

UPDATE: In case some of you have been wondering why dell is discounting 2209WA at $212 shipped, I think I may have found the answer. A dell rep told me today these 2209WAs were supposed to be bundled with a biz desktop system. That didn't happened so Dell has now excess stock of 2209WAs. The interest generated by the internet buzz has been intense but there are still some left at $212 for now. About 1,000 I'm told.

There is also another dell rep familiar with the this promo. Her name is Angela Smith and can be reached at 1-800-456-3355 x 9460376 or by email (her name with underscore @dell.com).

Good luck.

I'm going to try to bring this thread back from the dead. Has anyone received theirs yet? Has anyone experienced the color uniformity issues? (Green or blue tint on left, washed out/red/orange on right)? It seems to be a frequent issue, and I'm trying to determine if it's worth the hassel to replace.

thought i'd chime in with my thoughts on my 2209wa i've had for a couple of weeks.

i stare at a pair of 20" TNs all day at work, and it's always pleasant to sit back down at home to this thing. It does, however, need to be calibrated to appreciate its potential.

For starters, the default contrast setting destroys the gamma....and it gives the grey-scale a heck of a challenge in the higher IREs. After doing a full grey-scale and gamma calibration, and getting the 100IRE peak white at about 30 ft-lamberts, it's beautiful....about my only complaint is the crap black level....but that's just LCDs for ya...i'm use to the panasonic plasma upstairs.

For an LCD though (especially an IPS for around $230)...this is the a good panel.

There is a lot to like about Dell 2209WA. After a few days of ownership here a some thoughts:

First of all, I'm not an graphics professional; I do coding, light web design. I owned only TN panels and do not have calibration hardware. I bought 2209WA to replace HP w2207, a glossy TN panel, because I wanted more satisfying HD movie watching experience. w2207 is wonderful for text and web browsing, but has backlight bleed and viewing angle problems, pronounced esp. when watching dark movie scenes.

Enter Dell 2209WA? Movies look definitely and noticeably better. Black is darker. No noticeable backlight bleed around edges. Colors are more accurate out of the box, especially green which I had problems with on w2207. Viewing angles are much better. I like the OSD buttons on this Dell, very easy to adjust brightness. Very nice stand, easy to adjust and stable.

I didn't have any major QC issues with my lcd. Brightness and color uniformity is satisfactory. I have one dead red subpixel (Hardly noticeable during day to day use. I won't bother sending it back). BTW, when I did the pixel test, I had a few 'stuck' pixels in other colors but they came back easily with slightest tapping on the panel.

There are only few minor attributes where w2207 comes on top. Due to its glossy screen w2207 has sharper/crisper text. The anti-glare finish on 2209WA introduces a slight fuzziness, most pronounced with smaller fonts. It also creates a slight shimmering effect when viewing patches of light color, such as new document page. But this is typical of anti-glare coats in general and 2209WA is no exception. These caught my eye only because I had the w2207 side by side, and I've easily adjusted to it.

Overall I'm happy with my purchase. I got a superior movie watching monitor, more accurate colors, and better viewing angles with very slight trade-offs. Even at the listed price 2209WA is a great deal. At $212 shipped, if you can still get it at this price, it's practically a steal.

Got one for 215. I mentioned a deal they had on dealnews.com of 25 percent off all monitors that somehow had a misprint of the expiration date(it had stated that it ended on the 3rd), but the sales rep gave me a 30 percent discount! Wooohooo.......

I'm crossing my fingers though. I hope it arrives in good condition. I hate to have to spend money on sending it back.
