Depending on how easy it is to access the ram to upgrade it, I't's not that big of a deal. The same for the SSD. If it's easily modable/upgradeable it's a decent effort.

Exactly what I was thinking. For $330 you can get an Acer Aspire One with almost identical specs, except 8GB SSD and 3-cell battery instead of 4-cell.

At $300 it would have been interesting, but at $350 the Mini 9 doesn't really stand out.

I do like that the thing is customizable though... so you can pay a couple buck extra is you reallly want BT or a webcam or what have you. I don't think the price is very out of line at this point in the game either.

Agreed.

But I've heard there going to release another, bit more beefy version. Its supposed to have a bigger HDD, more ram, and a bigger battery. Anyone hear about it?

The hard drive will be 160GB and 1GB or RAM. Not sure about the battery. Seeing how Lenovo is backed up with the current orders, I don't think you'll see this one for a while...maybe December.

The Aspire One looks to be the best netbook in terms of price/specs right now... for me, it's basically between the Aspire One and the MSi Wind, but the One is much less expensive. The only major point the Wind has over the One is the extra inch and the improved keyboard... anyone else think that the Wind is worth the extra ~$130 over the One?

Are you comparing it to the 6 cell Acer one? If so, that's $399 and the Asus EEE 1000H comes in at $449 at some retailers. I'd pay the extra 50 for the extra inch and slightly bigger keyboard. I actually have the Acer One and have had extensive use of the 10000H. I have to say the 10" sized netbooks is the absolute sweet spot for me.

2 gripes with my dell:

1. the screen is glossy. not a big fan of glossy screen... can see lots of reflections. anandtech gives it a favorable review but i dont think its quite great. (i prefer my old eeepc 4g, but it wasnt as bright). another killer is vertical viewing angle is bad... which is amplified by the fact that it has LIMITED tilt. if you sit up on a proper desk, then you can see the screen fine. if you use it on your lap or something else - like a small netbook is meant to be used - then youre forced to look at the screen at an angle... needs to tilt more!!

2. keyboard. annadtech likes how each key is larger than most other netbook, but really i didnt have problem with the eeepc's "small" keys. on the dell they removed the standalone F
  1. keys, which is annoying, and they also took away the right-side Alt key..... which i liked for 1-handed operation of Ctrl+Alt+Del, or Alt+Arrows for browsing.

    2 annoyances

the dell's keyboard annoyance I found was the location of the apostrophe. I think they could have shrunk the enter key and squeezed it in. You naturally have to reach your pinky to hit enter anyway, so the large enter key is not beneficial in such a cramped environment.

it is however, built well, and damn perfect size. But might be able to snag a 1000h w/ the 30% ebay deal... I dunno if I'm willing to take on the extra 1lb of weight.

Saw the EEE 900A today for the first time at Best Buy.
WOW! That thing is small.

Even much smaller than my x60t which is already ultra thin and light.

I finally got mine, MSI Wind. Keyboard is pretty nice, had a chance to do some typing on it today. It is pretty large though, compared to my co-worker's Eee PC 901.

Thanks clandren, but I think I'll leave it alone for now unless the battery life gets better with the new BIOS. I set up my old Dell Inspiron 6000 to be underclocked and undervolted for better battery life. With this MSI Wind, I wouldn't want to do anything that might impact battery life as that is key for me. However, the information is there if I decide to.

The MSI Wind's overclock is only functional when on AC power, so no worries there. I picked up a 2gb SODIMM so I could overclock; sadly, I discovered that the button to turn on "overclock mode" is the same one that turns it into "eco mode" when it's on battery. I can do a 24% overclock easy, though, with a Corsair 2gb ValueRAM stick. I even tried Orthos on it; ran it for 30 minutes before I decided to call it quits.
