Howdy, I've never had an iPhone before and had a 4 given to me by an upgrading relative. It is currently running firmware version 6.0. I haven't yet reset it, beyond going into the settings and deleting all content and resetting phone, is there anything else I need to do to it to wipe the previous owners data or link to their account?

I hear iOS 7 is a bit too much for the iPhone 4, is this still the case with the latest update? Is there a way I can update to the latest (or near latest if I want to jailbreak) ios 6 so I can get the most features/fixes just shy of iOS 7?

Thank you!

my daughter (12) has my old iPhone4 and iOS7 runs just fine on it. Plug it into your computer, fore up iTunes and reset/update it and you should be good.

I would stay away from 7 on a 4--ick. You could probably find an ispw file with the latest 6 through unofficial channels.

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't put iOS 7 on an iPhone 4. And I'm usually all for upgrades, but iOS 7 is a lagfest on the iPhone 4.

iOS 7 on the iPhone 4 is quite slow in certain spots but overall it is usable for light users. Personally I'd rather have 7.0.4 on it than 6.0, but iOS 6.1.3 might be preferred (but unfortunately yours doesn't have 6.1.3).

Note that a lot of current apps now require iOS 7, so even iOS 6.1.3 is becoming old tech quickly.

FWIW, here is my demo of iOS 7 on an iPhone 4:

Indeed.

It all depends on how much of a *user* you are. I've had to put up with iOS7 since I upgraded and my iPhone4 lags on everything. Lags on facebook, youtube videos and I've had enough as well as the iphone basically wearing out after 2yrs. I've had it for 4yrs now and I had to get it replaced once under warranty and now it's on it's last legs. The power button has stopped working and the home button doesn't work properly. Just got my iPhone5 and I'm very happy so fast. The difference is speed is amazing.

It seems to be rather hit and miss with these phones when it comes to OS upgrades. Some people have problems, others don't. Not sure why this is when all the hardware is the same.

We were given an iPhone 4 at work with iOS 7 on it for testing. Clean install. It was terribly laggy and has been confined to a shelf. It's not quite as bad as iOS 4 was on the 3G (which was basically unusable) but I wouldn't recommend it.

It lagged so bad on iOS7 that some youtube videos would lag General usage wasn't *so* bad but it would lag badly at times. Programmes crashing much more. It was perfectly fine on iOS6. It doesn't matter so much now as I have a second hand iPhone 5 but I'm still waiting on the nano sim to be sent to me. I forgot my micro sim wouldn't fit in it. The Three store wanted to charge me £5.10 for the nano sim. I don't think I've ever been charged for a sim card on a network that I'm already paying for. I called up customer services and they waived the fee for me due to loyal service.
