I got my DSL service in Nov of 2000... and ever since its been fubared. It randomly disconnects, or just slows down, or when it hasn't been used for a while it won't work. Its always on, no logging in. The only way to usually fix the problem is unplug the modem and plug it back in (power cycle)... and I have to do this 3+ times a day! Ive called a million times and my isp doesnt have any ideas besides cutting my speed down to increase stability (UGH)... so I'm wondering what might be causing the weak signal? I tried changing my RWIN from 8k to 64k as dslreports.com's tweak applet recommended, and now my speed is great (1400kbits down 700 up)... but the disconnection/no connection is a pain in the ass. Could it be the lines in my house or something? Or maybe the splitter, or filters on the phone line (words ive heard but i have no idea what they mean, but they sound important =P). What, specifically, should I tell/ask my ISP?? Cause this is really lame, and I dont think its ever going to get fixed unless I KNOW What is causing it and tell them...
If anyone can offer any ideas as to why my connection is doing this... Oh, and I've had the modem replaced once already.
