installing cpu on mobo

im getting the p4 2.53 retail box w/heatsink & fan and the albatron PX845PEV PRO Retail will i need to get any thermal grease and is it easy installing the cpu on the board as far as i know p4 have no heat issues

Installation is quite easy. You should definately get some thermal grease (arctic silver III) but if you don't want to do that or cannot get any for some reason, the retail hs/f will have a thermal pad on the bottom of it that you can use. I would certainly recommend taking the thermal pad off and using arctic silver, it will work much better.

Under normal circumstances the retail HSF with thermal pad will do fine. Of course I reccomend AS3 whenever possible.
edit: sounds like your first time installing a cpu? make sure you put it in the socket correctly w/ pin 1 in the right posistion, the cpu should just drop in, no force needed.

i have been told that using thermal grease could void the waranty is this so

I've never heard that and don't think it would be so. Besides, if you had to send the chip back all you have to do is wipe the thermal grease off.

Technically, yeah it's true. It doesn't matter anyway. Unless you're planning on some nasty overclocking the pad on the bottom of the retail heatsink will work just fine. Don't sweat any of this...just checkout the directions in the retail box when it arrives...people far far stupider than you can do this just fine
