I'm putting together a new system, and no matter what I do I cant get XP (Pro) to install. Here's the specs
Athlon XP 2200+
Shuttle SK41G One of those XPC things with a FX41 Motherboard (KM266)
512 MB DDR 2100 Crucial RAM
80 GB Seagate Hard Drive
Lite-On CD-RW/DVD Drive
So I put all the components in, and boot from the xp disc. It starts the installation, but freezes up near the beginning every time, or just displays a black screen. I bumped down the memory settings and disabled onboard sound, but still didnt work. I even tried to use an old video card (instead of the onboard one), since I read that the XP installation didnt like some video cards. Still didnt work, I ran a memory test, came out fine, but I tried a good 256 MB that I knew was fine. I even tried a different cd drive, and the installation cd is fine... no scratches.
Then I just tried to install 98 second edition... worked fine. Installed the drivers, got newest versions, and everything works great. But I want xp, so I start the upgrade from windows 98. It gets ready for the install, copies files, then reboots. Now it will either go blank after an initial setup screen, or just freeze later on in the install. No matter what it does it...
So I try to install xp (booting off cd) with a different motherboard. Installs fine, and I uninstall the IDE controller and switch motherboards. It seemed ok, installed the new drivers, but then it became unstable.... randomly crashing, not starting up, etc.
So now I reinstalled 98, and its running great...
Why wont it let me install XP? It's got to be something with the motherboard, but I have no idea what... its really frustrating. Anyway, thanks in advance.
