Integrated Audio: VIA Envy 24PT

The chip is great, but I was wondering how the intergrated solutions are. I've seen a few boards around like this Albatron, and a few others. So how do they sound?

I like it. I built a system for someone not long ago with the Albatron. Was very impressed with the sound quality considering that it was an on-board solution.

Anyone know how it stacks up to dedicated sound cards using the Envy or the Audigy?

The sound on my Albatron PX865PE Pro II is exceptionally good for an onboard implementation. They make good use of the VIA Envy 24PT, and I couldn?t ask for more when playing games, listening to music thru my Logitech Z2200 speakers (2.1 setup). I am not saying it would surpass a high-end, high-dollar, add-on card, but I think it easily sounds as good as cards in the $50 range. The use of this chip is just one more reason that the Albatron has to be one of (if not the) best i865PE based board out there, when taken in light of performance, features and value.

I have an Albatron board with this chip in it.
Works great with headphones/2 speaker setups.
Anything else I'm not sure about.

I would be very happy to have that built-in audio on the Albatron MB that I am about to use as the basis for a DVR setup (it's a KX-400-8X, and will have an XP 2600, and 512 MB of RAM). But I'm pretty sure I have something else aboard, in spite of the claim about "six channels".

The inputs/outputs on this one are just way too "simple" for any full 5.1 setup, and that's what the ENVY 24HT is all about (shoot, I think it's supposed to be for 7.1).

That board's audio is based on the Realtek ALC-650 six-channel codec
