Hi

Just ordered Intel X25-V 40gb SSD today @ $125.97 CAN
read 170 mb/s write 35 mb/s

Going to use it for boot drive only ( operating system + 1 or 2 applications )

I realize that there are other SSD's for less money such as:
Kingston SSDNow V series SNV125-S2/30gb @ $89.95 CAN read 180 mb/s and write 50 mb/s

OCZ Vertex Series OCZSSD2-1VTX30GXXX 30gb @ $139.99 CAN
read 230 mb/s write 135 mb/s

I do not know why Intel SSD write speeds seem low compared to others ( Intel X25-E series write speed is 70 mb/s for 80gb, 100 mb/s for 160gb )

test reports are good for Intel SSD's in general - any comments re: write speeds?

I decided on the Intel X25-V because I like idea of SSDtoolbox software for their drives

Anand seems to think that Intel artificially capped write speeds to make their SLC drives seem more attractive.

Doesn't matter though, they are plenty fast enough.

I have relegate my 60 GB Vertex to my gaming/other apps drive and placed a X25-v and my OS drive. I think its superior random r/w just makes it fee more responsive. The app I use on the X25 is Adobe Master Collection. Premiere Pro and Photoshop (with all those component load-in) feels snappier on the x25 than the Vertex.

You read speed is very good and that is all that matters.

Unless you're copying from some source that's capable of transferring to your SSD at >40MB/s, there's not way you're gonna realize your SSD's writes are any slower. Plus, you SSD's random write and access time with topple any HDD's

Maybe perhaps copying from the memory?

What in the world do you want to copy from memory? My 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo can hardly unzip a file at more than 30MB/s, I don't see how his 30MB/s can be a bottle neck for any normal program.

I believe most read and write from memory are random and small (just look at the performance monitor). So the X25-v with it high Random R/W will shine - like any decent SSD really.
