Intel 440bx upgrade?

Does anyone know which is the fastest processor this board will take?

Here is a link to an OEM SE440BX Upgrade page. The info should apply to a regular Intel board with no problems. There is a good Processor table towards the bottom of the page also.

Thanks for the info. The Intel board, however is a Socket370 board. It is PPGA, so does that mean a Celeron 533 is the fastest chip I can drop in directly? Is there some sort of adapter so I can throw in a FC-PPGA processor? If so, will the Bios recognize it??

There is an adapter for Socket 370 processors(ppga to fcpga), it is mentioned on the site I linked(main page) above, but unless it is a proprietary board, it should take the same processors(i.e. 1Ghz PIII or 1.1Ghz Celeron) as the Slot 1 boards without needing a slocket adapter. What is the make and model of the board or the system it is from?

It's an Intel Bi440zx. Unless I can directly drop an fc-ppga processor into the socket, I have a feeling it would be more cost effective to get a new mobo/processor!

You are correct. Some third parrty board makers included a neat little jumper that would let you select PPGA or FC-PGA for the socket 370, but these were mostly 815 and 810 boards. Your board does not support this, and since it is a socket 370 board instead of a slot1 board, you can't use one of those cheap $10 slocket adapters. Your best bet is to sell your mobo and Proc and buy a much more powerful modern mobo and chip combo.
