Core Y has one big problem that Intel can't fix - Windows UI.

Having a touch optimized UI isn't actually a problem for a touch device.

Having a phone OS is a pretty big problem for something you could otherwise use for actual work.

When is Broadwell with Iris Pro GPU for the desktop going be release and if it is already release; what are the CPUs available for it? Is it a socket 1150? If not; what is the socket type?

Vaguely soon but maybe still not for a few months.

Which is a tiny bit annoying since it'll be very interesting to see how far they've managed to push the IGP with the thermal headroom etc.

Mind you, from what I've read here, seems like skylake is going to eventually have some even bigger iGPU variants.

I'll be doing a new workstation build sometime soon and thinking of getting the current Haswell Xeon E5-1630 v3

Does anyone know if there will be an equivalent Broadwell Xeon processor?

You are aware that iOS is a subset of OS X with a touch interface? Repeating the 'phone os' thing isn't really doing you much good here.

AnandTech: Intel NUC5i7RYH Broadwell-U Iris NUC Review

Great CPU performance but there's definitely some BW bottleneck on the iGPU side (game benchmarks). It manages to significantly outperform regular HD4400/HD5500 in synthetic benchmarks though. Thank god Skylake will bring eDRAM to 15-28W ''U'' chips .

With a shrink of the PCH to 22nm + eDRAM, I think future "U" parts will be quite compelling.

Game benchmarks are really disappointing (BW GT3 vs BW GT2), I hope it's driver related.

Well, so far, bandwidth limitations have prevented AMD's APUs from being compelling purchase motivators. However, that could change with HBM, and Intel really needs to step up their game here. Seems like they are getting into the "next chip syndrome". First it was 14nm and Broadwell Gen 8 that was supposed to be a game changer. Now it is Skylake and gen 9 with edram. I just dont understand how a company with so much technical expertise can not narrow the gap with AMD. I mean they have, but AMD *could* make a big step forward with HBM, and intel seems incapable or unwilling to do it, except in an expensive limited edram product. (Edit: seems to me with all the time, effort, and process advantage, Intel should have caught up to AMD in mainstream igpu performance and been in the lead with the edram versions.)

Right now, it is not a major problem, because their graphics is "good enough", while neither Intel or AMD is powerful enough (igp) to be a compelling solution. But if Zen brings HBM and a shrink to 14nm, the competition will suddenly ramp up quickly. And I know it is a very artificial test, but the starswarm demo on DX12 showed absolutely terrible results even with the edram GT3e, possibly indicating some other serious bottleneck besides bandwidth.

And yes, I agree, the gaming benchmarks on that NUC test they just put out were quite disappointing. Seems the reviewer was very generous in assessing gaming performance. Right now, as I said, that is not a problem, because AMD does not have a capable gaming platform in that power envelope either, but with DX12, HBM and 14nm (if they are even close to being on time) that could chage.

Well Intel's plan was to have Broadwell K out about 6 months ago Then ramping it up a bit further with Skylake etc.

Broadwell K will be the marker to judge how far they've moved gaming scale IGP onwards with BW as it'll have both the eDram for the bandwidth and the power budget to actually have genuinely realistic expectations of gaming performance at 1080p attached.

Source? All I see is mid 2015.

According to AtenRa's linked article:

There has been a lot of talk about Intel Broadwell processors. For the PC side of things, the 14nm desktop Broadwell processors will be the Core i7-5775C & Core i5-5675C. These will be the first two Desktop PC processors, and as its now know they will launch mid-May

Slide says mid-2015, article says mid-May.

Well, those Desktop Broadwells were supposed to be released in Q2 2015. Mid May is middle of Q2.
Skylake should be late August early September i believe.
