To be honest, time to put in personal calls to Santa, guys. Looks like it's gonna be Christmas before we get to play with these chips. Save up and build that killer machine during the holidays is what I'm thinking.

I think Z390 is coming at the end of this year. The 8700K no stock situation is a painful blow, but if they release or even announce the Z390 with 8 core support any time soon, that's like dropping a nuke on our heads, right? Or Its like making us jump off a roof onto a bicycle but then Intel removes the seat right before we land, right? It would be like that.
I went to bed before midnight and figured I'd miss the availability, but it turns out there wasn't any, lol. I may have well purchased an 8700K on pure impulse this morning (honestly, I likely would have just went for it), but if it didn't happen today and I have to wait, then I won't get one. I can happily and easily wait for Z390 (which shouldn't be long, unlike that bicycle seat post).

Why can't we be friends.... why can't we be friends...

My option is starting to solidify... I think I'll break the meta and go 8700 + really high speed RAM.

Haha

How high are you thinking? It seems anything over 3400 isn't work the price premium.

So it's the end of the day: there are, literally 0 8700K's in the entire country and only a handful of boards (with insane prices). Both that CPU and the Apex have an estimated 10+ days to come into stock. It's abysimal and not a launch, worse than Skylake. Sorry but I'm giving this the finger until things become reasonable and actually available, what a letdown as I had plannend on building it Saturday.

I'll build mine tomorrow.

Z390 is 2H 2018, and it is very likely that if there is an 8 core CFL it will work on Z370. If the 8 core is Ice Lake, then compatibility could be iffy.

RAM prices in my country have exploded, so if I'm going to buy RAM now I might as well go crazy and maybe aim over 3400. However, RAM will be the last piece of the puzzle, I can swap kits around and produce 16GB of 3200MHz RAM if my common sense returns.

4266, it's the only option.
shush!

ONLY you want to acclaim a winner here. What for? What benefit to the world will it bring?

There is ZERO Objectivity in acclaiming winners anywhere. Both companies have strong and weak spots. Saying that one is better than the other is just showing your preferences, nothing else. That is why - why do we have always talk about one company versus the other, and not just the products themselves?

There is always a winner in any comparison and always the best CPU for a price point. Why do you think anandtech , techreport have their CPU recommendations for various price points- Eg: - Between 8700k and 1800X thats the 8700k. Previously there was a dilemma for users to trade MT performance for ST performance with 7700k. With 8700k there are no tradeoffs. Its the best CPU out there for ST beating the competition by a big margin and with very competitive MT. If somebody had USD 350 to buy a CPU today there is only one CPU - 8700k. 8700k basically obsoletes a lot of CPU - both from Intel like 7700k/7740x, 7800x and from AMD like R7 1700x/1800x,

OK, I might be crazy...just a little crazy...but a 4266MHz RAM kit does sound tasty right now.

May require a lot of fiddling to get working properly + a very high end board (which you'll get he he) + good IMC on the CPU (which is the luck of the draw). Sounds delicious though thumbs up!

I hope not. But with the big online e-tailers closing orders and listing the 8700K simply as OOS (with no estimated availability); then we must be looking at at least a month before reasonable stock is available. I have been planning to wait till Black Friday - seems like a lucky move on my part.

This does create a quandary - it's it now worth waiting for the Z390 to come out - or even wait to see what Ryzen can do on the 12LP process node. I think Intel kinda screwed the pooch on this launch. At least one person has gotten ticked off enough to switch to buying Ryzen over this - I expect many more may switch to the Red team because of this screw up.

Z390 is going to be about 9 months off, so no in my opinion. How frustrating it may be, wait for the Z370 + CFL-S to come into stock as it's so much better than anything the competition has and will have to offer. I'm still ticked off myself however patience is a true virtue here.

I won't switch to the red team buuuut, yes, if I can't get my 8700k by nov 1st then I'm waiting for z390.

Depending on how I get on with the Hero, I may have to buy the Apex when it's released for the memory OC++.

8700K tray is available in Germany with 4-6 days ETA.
Comes at a slight premium, but at least it's available.

Ordered mine couple hours ago.

My bad, still remember old rumors of 1Q18.

Well, let's hope your Black Friday doesn't end up like your Black Thursday, hehe.
