Oh no, definitely not. A 9800GT is probably ~5x as fast as a 7300GS, possibly more, depending on the resolution. Now, your framerate likely won't go up much, if any, because of your CPU, but with a little tweaking, you shouldn't have any problems getting the same FPS. The difference will be that you'll be getting that framerate with your in-game graphics settings cranked, instead of on ultra low.

The other day when I said that you would be get more of a performance gain from upgrading your CPU, that was before you said that you were using a 7300GS, which isn't alot faster than today's IGP's (onboard graphics). I still think that a 9800GT is too much card for that CPU, though. I agree with whoever said that a 9600GSO would be a much better match, and would save you a considerable amount of money, not to mention that they're considerably shorter (length, not height), and also use less power. I personally would put either an 8800GS, 9600GSO, or 4670 in that system. Good luck, no matter what you choose.

Assuming your power supply can handle both the extra power for the video card, and the extra power for the processor, you can run any of the 500 series Pentium-D's that they made in that board. You've got the slowest of the Pentium-D's, BTW. They went up to 3.2Ghz: http://processorfinder.intel.c...tails.aspx?sSpec=SL8CM Notice that the 3.2Ghz has a 130 watt TDP, and your 805 has a 95 watt TDP. That's 2.5A of extra +12v power your PSU would have to supply, along with the extra it's going to be having to supply for the video card. You would definitely have to buy one of these to power your video card, if you plan on buying a 9800GT and a faster Pentium-D. You most likely will need one of those, even with your 95 watt 805, but it's hard to say for sure.

I think we should just point out that the 7300 GS sucks -

Core......Mem.......Pixel (MP/s)....Vertex (MV/s).....Texture (MT/s)....Bandwidth max..Bus width
550........810.........1100.................412.5...................2200..................6.48...................64

9600 GSO

Core.....Shader.....Memory.....Pixel (MP/s).....Texture (MT/s).....Bandwidth..... Bus width
550........1375.........1600..........6600.................26400................38.4...............192

Just be careful and research the card you choose there are a lot of different 9600 GSO specs (see for yourself http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C...hics_Processing_Units)

The GeForce 9600 GSO 512 is faster if you can find it for the right price... the ASUS below is a bit slower than reference due to slower memory and a 128 bit bus.

Pic of the 9600 GSO card

The card should fit, you have plenty of clearance in the middle of the card, just not at the back (right hand side of the pic I posted, you definately have clearance for a couple of caps, which is all that is present on that ASUS card).

I think this graph shows how well powerful GPUs perform when matched to poor CPUs...
