It's an Intel, guys. Buy it as a secondary GPU. Try replaying games on it when you are bored. Torture it with OC and OV. AMD users need not apply. You are not good enough for Intel and besides, you already betrayed Intel. Intel doesn't care about you. Finally, Intel has a GPU to sell to you with their F and KF CPU SKUs.

Let's make Intel some money. Let's help them recover from their mistakes. We can't have Intel being so embarrassed every year and trying to save its face. We have a responsibility to the company that started the PC revolution with the 8086. There would be no AMD without Intel. Who would they copycat? They are at their best when Intel innovates (Pentium 4 10 GHz!). How did Epyc sell well? Coz Intel created those customers in the first place. Intel must rise once more and we must open our hearts (and wallets) to them generously.

I would too. I miss the days when you could upgrade an old PC for relatively cheap by getting GT x10 model and get hw acceleration for all the new standards.
Thought I would never get Intel for a gaming PC at this point.

rBAR works on a Ryzen 5 5600X and MSI B550 Tomahawk. Even the fanstop works which didn't work on Intel.

Im encouraged by this. Beta driver seems a lot more stable, raytracing hit is only a bit worse than RTX 3000 series, which is remarkable given the state of the drivers and the fact that this is Intel’s first attempt.

A770 is going to be a fine card. Too late, but a good first showing. Driver team needs to pull some late nights and push out driver improvements like a guinea pig pushes out poops. Hard and fast.

There is a new driver coming in August with the new idle power state and other bugfixes. The entire Arc lineup should be out in August or September btw. They said it's coming before the Intel innovation event: Twitch

Not really that surprising given that raytracing is a clean DirectX 12 API.

This level of raster performance is very bad for a product, which is so much bigger yet slower than RX 6500XT. Power consumption is also a lot worse than a similarly performant RX 6400, yet they are using the same process.

It doesn't look that bad considering the driver is so immature. RX6400 clocks with 2130 to 2289 MHz in games (as per techpowerup review) while the A380 Gunnir clocks with 2450 Mhz. This will give the RX 6400 a logical efficiency advantage just from the lower clocks. Also the A380 with more VRAM, a bigger memory interface and twice the PCIe Lanes which certainly is not a performance boost in all of these 1080p games but adds to the board power. The big size difference is explainable. There is no encoder engine in 6400/6500 whereas A380 has two encoder including AV1 decoding/encoding support and also two decoder, it must be much smaller of course alongside other reasons (less display pipes, less PCIe lanes, smaller memory interface, no XMX units, less capable Ray Tracing units).

Even RX 6500XT is a bit more efficient(performance/W) and that one has higher clocks than Intel and Its performance barely scales with frequency increase, which is obvious If you compare 6400 vs 6500XT. GFLOPs increases by 60% thanks to 1/3 more CU and 21% higher clocks, but performance increase is only 28%. Power consumption during gaming also increases by a staggering 75%, because of high Voltage(1.2V vs 0.95V).

A hypothetical 157mm2 RDNA2 GPU should look like this at least:
20CU, 80TMU, 32ROPs, 96bit GDDR6 6GB Vram, 24MB IF. + 8x PCIe4 + full Media decoding/encoding + display pipes.
Yes, there would be no AI engine and RT would be still worse, but these things are not important for an entry level GPU.
I think this would perform close to RTX 3050 and that one is 85% faster than Arc A380.
Power consumption shouldn't be worse than RX 6500XT thanks to lower clocks.
With this in mind I have no reason to be impressed with Arc A380.
It's a good first try, but that's all.

I am conflicted on this point. Being able to use higher textures in some games is always welcomed. OTOH, it is such a slow card. Confining the purchase to a typical tight budget gaming build, throws a Monkeywrench in the value analysis. Ray tracing on cards of this level is a marketing checkbox. Can't slap it in an old Optiplex or the like, no rebar. And based on TPU's testing, if they offer versions without the power connector, it may lose a little more performance yet. He had it using 80W. Then it used 94W with as much as 101W spikes with a power virus. Which will likely make a slot powered model less attractive than the 1650 and 6400 for that niche of builds.

I love the budget gaming segment. I paid less than $117.50 for the single slot 6400, and that came with Saints Row which will be a $40-$60 game on release. I would not have bought it at $150 out of pocket, despite it being the king of its tiny niche. The 6500XT is a better 1080p gamer than the ARC particularly when realistic settings for budget cards are used for testing. Another 2GB of ram and better RT, should not tip the scales the other way for the savvy shopper trying to maximize bang for buck. It needs to be $125 at most to make sense, and the $100 TPU calculated is where it would shine.

Given the techpowerup review, it does seem Intel is accurately, if a bit conservatively positioning the 380. If the 770 position is similarly accurate we may see it trading blows with 3070 on modern games.

It's encouraging to see that the new beta drivers fixed so much. It might not be that bad when they officially launch the cards. Once they iron out the obvious issues, they are in pretty good situation and can concentrate on getting the performance up.
