First Gracemont laptop available for sale.
Anybody got disposable $500 to buy and test this laptop?
I'm actually seriously tempted! Now all we need to do is wait for @igor_kavinski to buy one!
Maybe coming soon from ASUS or ASROCK.Alderlake-N, mITX motherboard, M.2 SSD and M.2 WiFi with PCIe x1 slot please!
i5-1230u aka 2p+8e, 09 watts
Wow they put a 45w cpu (maybe it is cTDP down to 35w) in a 3.1lb laptop, the Acer SF314-71 14”which goes for $899. Note this is not the computer we were talking about earlier but it is one of them they compared the 1230u 09w tdp chip too in the review above that we linked too.
That's the most interesting SKU for me but failed to impress the reviewer in this laptop: https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/dell-xps-13-9315
People have mentioned it, but given DDR5 or LPDDR, probably makes no difference. They feed 8+16 with two channels, after all.Not sure if anyone explicitly mentioned it before in this thread (sorry, might have missed it!), but: AlderLake-N doesn't support dual-channel memory. So yeah it has single-channel memory for a reason.

You mean gaming with a dGPU?Reviews show that in games, even the DDR4 doesn't make that big of an impact. Games are actually noticeably faster on Alderlake-N in quite a few titles, meaning it was actually CPU bound on Tremont.
I am interested as well, my brain was thinking about this yesterday and if the benchmarks are to be believed (I have not seen a real review like anandtech) ...I want to see the performance of the 8 Core with a dGPU inside to see the limits of said chip

I'd prefer PCIe with more lanes in order to test a dGPU in it.Screw that. I like the MiniPCs.
But why not Alderlake-N in an mITX motherboard like they did with Goldmont Plus?

If the CPU is as strong as a Skylake one, it can run decently some new games.
Weird that the laptop chassis is so thick.
Looks like it's going for $350 now!
Agree that 3 Ghz Skylake is not that fast, but once we see that is an octa core, everything changes, making it very useful. Maybe for someone who uses virtual machines or doing casual gaming it might do the trick, but just needs a dGPU, even if is a entry level to make a BIG change.CPU is not uniformly strong as Skylake. It's stronger in the general purpose perf/clock(meaning it has a solid architecture), but it has weaker FP and less L/S units that make it potentially weak in games. People value consistency over leading in some areas but losing in others, and losing fair bit in some few ones.
It's probably not that far behind, but 3GHz(MT) Skylake in 2023 is not something super fast either.

i3-1215u may feel snappier in normal usage but it will also boost higher so battery won't be as good as the 8e part. ADL-N could have become the basis of an affordable 12 to 15 hour 15.6 inch laptop but it seems that Intel is feeling too shy at the moment and doesn't want to get pummeled in benchmarks against Zen2/Zen3 laptops.I really want to know everday use how much better the +2p is vs +4e when both of these laptops have an additional 4e so we are talking 4e+2p vs 8e+0p.
