Looking for a motherboard with rock-solid stability under W2K--especially concerning USB and power management.

I've been encouraged to check out the Intel SE440BX-2V motherboard. Also, the Intel D815EEAA.

Any comments?

Intel motherboards usually tend to be more expensive then other top brand motherboards and I'm not sure that is a justifiable increase in the price...

There are few manufacturer's out there like Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, MSI, that make very good boards that use either Intel or VIA chipsets for the Intel processors and work really well..

These boards are generally cheaper and present no significant problems..

I've used a DFI(dual MB) on NT for a long time, and then recently switched over to a Gigabyte dual MB and run W2K without any problems.

As soon as the Dual AMD chipset is release, I intend to pick up a dual Asus MB..Regards

SE440BX2-V is nice but BX chipset and slot-1. The D815EEAAL is a nice board. Built countless systems with it. Very orck stable and smart. To flash the bios, you run a program in Windows and it does the rest for you. I highly recomend it for stability.

If you don't plan on overclocking, then Intel's makes some of the stablest motherboards. Besides, as they say, nobody ever got fired for buying intel.
However, I have to agree on the price hike. Besides, they aren't easy to find either. If stability is your concern, check out Asus and MSI too. They very comparable alternatives and often have extra features and a lower price.

I have a Slot 1 P3/500 that I was planning to transplant--unless you have a better suggestion.

Pardon my ignorance, but why do you say "...but BX chipset"?

Well, we don't stock the SE440BX2-V anymore. Why? The BX chipset is old now, it's all about the i815E. We have heaps of those. E-mail me if interested, you are looking at $200+ though since it has onboard LAN.
